Welcome to /freetech/

Welcome,

Freetech is a board for discussion, promotion and development of Free Software.

See https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.en.html for the definition of Free Software.

Use the word "Free" and the term "Free Software" correctly, as stated in the above link. Your post will be deleted otherwise.

Read the rules: https://8ch.net/freetech/rules.html

If you're caught breaking the rules you will be banned for a reasonable amount of time. Continuously breaking the rules will result in a permanent ban.

Global rules apply.

To avoid confusion, use "GNU/Linux" to refer to the distributions of the operating system and "Linux" to refer to the kernel. Avoiding/refraining from doing this might get your post deleted with a reason telling you to rephrase.

We strongly recommend to use distributions of GNU/Linux endorsed by GNU and FSF: https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.en.html

For reasons why to not use other distros: https://www.gnu.org/distros/common-distros.en.html

See https://8ch.net/log.php?board=freetech for Owner/Volunteer logs.

PDF's are enabled, but please sanitize them before uploading.

SWF's are disabled; proprietary format.

Don't use proprietary formats, like mp3. In fact, don't use anything proprietary.

Especially don't promote services and/or software denounced by Dr. Stallman.

/freetech/support

Problems, questions, and requests for support regarding Free Software goes here.

Asking questions about how to move from proprietary software to free software is fine. Although do check http://www.fosshub.com/ or https://alternativeto.net/ for alternative software (I do however have a quarrel with alternativeto.net, as they don't always label which license a software use).
