If by cutting off my own foreskin, I could somehow prevent any other infants from ever being circumcised, I would do it. But nothing I could do will ever help.

Three years ago when my cousin and his wife had a baby boy, they had him circumcised, even though none of the men in our side of the family is. I was appalled when I heard it had happened, because I'm very close with my cousin's wife, and she respects my intelligence. There exists the possibility that I might have been able to convince her not to have it done, but of course I was never asked. The doctors told her to have it done, so she had it done (and the men on her side of the family are all cut, so she thinks there is no difference). It took me a long time to get over it. When the boy was still less than a year old, he got frequent mild infections/rashes on his exposed glans, and the doctors told her it was normal; she told me about it one day while changing him, and you can't possibly understand my feelings at that moment. It took all of my willpower to contain my anger and frustration and urge to just unload on her the truth of what she'd done.

It still hurts my heart whenever I see him. He's still near a decade from finding out what his penis can do for him, and it's not like it's really my fucking business, but still. I'm the youngest in the family apart from him, and he looks up to me more and more as the years are going by. He has all my old toys and I'm gradually giving him my books; I'm the greatest influence in his life outside his parents; I'm the smart and gentle and introverted one; should he turn out gay by some 5% chance, I'll be the only one in the entire family he can look to for support and understanding.
