She's entry-level tier which is bad, but her strength is also that she's entry-level tier. She's a bit of a gateway furry.

Also the (sexual) furry component is very aggressively pushed on you with her (yes, I know what she looked like in DP). If you have an ounce of furry in you, playing the games that feature her will either turn you furry for her, or will turn you furry for other characters later down the line.

I am not defending the quality of her character, but she is certainly a good tool for conversion. If conversion is a thing that is. The key to creating more furries is replicating her or the effects her portrayal has on the player. I'm afraid though that the hideous blue abortion that's coming this year isn't gonna be a successful repetition of it.

It's funny you keep using "fanservice" like it's something exclusive to Krystal. Fun fact: Wolf got into Brawl because he was one of the most requested newcomers (at least from the Japanese audience). All those votes for a character who barely acted outside of his ship, and then he ended up borrowing from Fox and Falco. In other words, he was entirely fanservice. It's also funny that people still think Krystal's as popular as she is solely because of furry fetishism when a large chunk of furfags in the community were pushing more to get Wolf back in the Smash ballot.

In fact, I'd say the reason Krystal gets as much hate as she does is simply because her existence as a love interest to Fox ruins the Fox/Falco/Wolf shipping headcannons of the furry community. There are plenty of other characters who serve even less purpose then Krystal (such as Panther, whose existence is solely to chase anything with a vagina, or Andrew and his "MUH UNCLE" complex), but since they all have dicks they get a free pass. And then there are some people who still hate her because they associate her inclusion with the coincidental downfall of the series, which is equally laughable because it was more of Nintendo's fault passing the Star Fox name around to multiple third parties like a bastard child and never showing it the love it deserved.

Now the series is partially in Platinum's hands, and they know Krystal's not at fault for bringing down the series. They would have brought her back for Star Fox Zero, too, if not for Nintendo "reimagining" the series. Platinum loves tits and ass, and I'm sure they would have fucking embraced her sex appeal rather than complaining like the hypocrites who fault her for it. I don't even like her all that much as a character, but all the hate-by-association means the series will never develop on the gameplay that made Assault a great multiplayer game, and Nintendo is rehashing SF64 again but with fewer core features (like no online multiplayer), last-gen graphics, and 100% more barrel roll memes. Hope it's worth it.

I only played the multiplayer a few times with my brother (hadn't played single-player since it was his game) but I remember it being a blast. I'm not even a fan of the series but it bothers me greatly their letting nostalgiafaggotry for 64 hold the series back.

I had always figured that if they took the "expected" approach to him, that he'd be similar in some ways to Bowser, but still unique in his own right.

But nope, Sakurai completely (but pleasantly) surprised us. The only thing even remotely expected about him is his Final Smash.

As unique and fresh as Bowser Jr's moveset was, I'm still somewhat disappointed it didn't revolve around the paintbrush instead. I'm also really starting to dislike how Jr can't be in anything without the Junior Clown Car now either.

>The only thing even remotely expected about him is his Final Smash.

Wait, you expecting him to paint the screen for his Final Smash? Not to mention given how he doesn't use the paintbrush at all outside of that it was even more unexpected for me.

 No.486241

>>486183

>And yet the conversation was about stopping a character getting into Smash for being fanservicey. You know Bayonetta of all characters is in Smash 4, right?

I said nothing about stopping her from getting in, I just thought that it'd be dumb to see her get in simply because people find her attractive.

I haven't played either Bayonetta games and I know nothing of it's fanbase, so I have no real business diving into that subject. All I'll say is that I've heard good things about the games, so at least she has that going for her.

>(Spoiler text)

I hadn't realized it before, but now that you mention it, it does seem like that he's in the Junior Clown Car most of the time in a lot of the recent Mario games.

>Wait, you expecting him to paint the screen for his Final Smash?

I expected him to do SOMETHING with his paintbrush. Not necessarily painting the screen, and not necessarily only in his Final Smash, but I expected he'd do something with it.

>Did they actually say that or did you just assume?

It's heavily implied. Nearly everyone who likes her that I've seen likes her for her appearance, not because of her personality or abilities.

Now, you're probably going to say that I should be taking my own advice and not just jumping to conclusions, and you know what? Maybe I should. But it's pretty hard not to considering the circumstances, as well as the fact that there's almost no evidence (besides yourself) to support otherwise (that I've seen).

Also, it always seems like fanservicey characters are popular among people's Smash roster wishlists. Another example of this is Cia (from Hyrule Warriors).

 No.486250

The main reason I want Krystal out of the games is because I can't stand how cheesy, half-assed love subplots are forced into pretty much anything, and fullfilling that is basically her only role in the series as a character. I want my SF64 style banter back, not that shit. It wouldn't be that big of a problem to me if she had any personality beyond "lol i'm just here suck fox's dick i dunno", but she doesn't.

>I hadn't realized it before, but now that you mention it, it does seem like that he's in the Junior Clown Car most of the time in a lot of the recent Mario games.

I liked it at first in New Super Mario Bros Wii, since it meant his boss fights were different from the Koopalings and bringing back the Koopa Clown Car was nostalgic, but now it just feels like it's part of the whole NSMB-fication of the entire franchise.

>I expected him to do SOMETHING with his paintbrush. Not necessarily painting the screen, and not necessarily only in his Final Smash, but I expected he'd do something with it.

Honestly after having the entire moveset revolving around the Clown Car, I think the paintbrush FS was a bit out-of-place. Especially since The Koopalings use it too and can turn into Shadow Mario.

>Now, you're probably going to say that I should be taking my own advice and not just jumping to conclusions, and you know what? Maybe I should. But it's pretty hard not to considering the circumstances, as well as the fact that there's almost no evidence (besides yourself) to support otherwise (that I've seen).

Are you just ignoring all the common newcomer traits she fills?:

- People request new characters that recently debuted prior to Smash, as these tend to the best source for newcomers. Olimar and Ike in Brawl and Awakening characters, Palutena and Shulk in Smash 4 for example. Krystal debuted in the Gamecube era and appear in three games prior to Brawl. It was expected people would request her due to being new.

- Obvious moveset potential. I don't think I even have to elaborate on the staff and why people can would request someone with a unique weapon

- Being a notable character. Now despite all the controversy she's caused, you can't deny she didn't have a significant presence in the Star Fox games she appeared in. In terms of plausible characters, people usually start with the most important ones. And after Fox, Falco and Wolf, really the only competition she has is Slippy.

Said princess would later become Tricky. So the game still had a fucking damsel regardless of Krystal's role in either game.

And so was Sabre. That's the fucking point you dumb nigger; retards deliberately forget or fuckers with an agenda omit the fact that Sabre was a playable character that had his own thing going on. And that you had to escort a princess, a damsel likely to be in distress. Do you even know what was in Dinosaur Planet or what goes on in game development? It was not the first platformer in the world to feature two playable characters and definitely wasn't the last. And it wasn't the first game or the last to feature characters that were scrapped to be replaced by another character with similar traits. >You dumb fucker. I'm not saying she didn't share the spotlight with Sabre, just they prior to Nintendo screwing the game over she was actually a fully-fledged playable character rather than Fox's cardboard cutout of a love interest.

And you still seem to fail to grasp the basic fact of game design. That when projects are scrapped and reworked into something else, characters may not come back or come back in a very different way. Krystal came back just like Leon did in Resident Evil 2 but their characters were changed. So was the princess, who was reworked into a prince named Tricky. This is not rocket science. And you still seem hung up on the fact Nintendo "screwed over" DP or Rare. From what we saw in Adventures, what the fuck makes you think this game, from the old trailers, would have been any good, or a financial success in the waning days of the Nintendo 64 and the upcoming release of the Gamecube?

>Fox's cardboard cutout of a love interest

Oh you mean like Fara Phoenix? And Katt to Falco? You mean like how damn near any relationship in this series? It's an all ages rail shooter franchise, not fucking Macross.

>Why is one character needing to be rescued relevant to the other one that doesn't?

Because you clearly don't know fuck about Star Fox or what Dinosaur Planet was supposed to be. The primary reason people like you bitch about DP turning into Adventures is because muh Krystal's a damsel now. The princess was a damsel in the original that likely had to be rescued and you have to save and protect Tricky in current version of the game. And while Krystal is damseled, she still does more than the rest of the Star Fox team combined in that game.

>Considering it affects the Star Fox series to this day and why the newest game is gonna be a Star Fox 64 retread, I's say it's still worth talking about, especially when this thread is about the character that spawned from it.

You mean it's a retread of the "save Corneria and the Lylat System from the evil Andross" plot that Star Fox (SNES), Star Fox 2 (SNES, scrapped in favor of 64 because the SNES was at the end of its life, hmm sound familiar? These games also feature 2 female pilots to play as and might have feature Fara as a third. No one cried about them being cut and never coming back) and Star Fox 64 all have? You notice these reboots constantly come about because the games featuring this basic plot are all considered not only the best received but also the best selling? And did you notice there were 2 games after Adventures that, while closer to the Star Fox formula and featured Krystal as a somebody who did stuff (she was even playable in Command and had multiple outcomes to her arc, HOLY SHIT), they were not as well received or sell as well as Star Fox or Star Fox 64. The franchise was feared dead until 64 was remade for the 3DS. So it's only natural they would reboot the series and retell "Star Fox and Lylat vs Andross" once again because it's the one that everyone likes and sells well. Krystal has nothing to do with this new reboot and Fara, Miyu or Fay had nothing to do with Star Fox 2 being canned despite being done in favor of Star Fox 64.

Is all of this seriously this hard to grasp? Is too hard to realize that Nintendo just wants to go the safe, popular, and profitable route when it comes to their works? Why do you think they still make Pokemon or did the Pokemon thing with the new Fire Emblem by selling two versions of the same game requiring you to buy two of the game or the special edition PLUS DLC to get a complete experience? And this shit about a 15 year old game in a franchise you don't know a fucking thing about is what gets to you? Sweet fucking Jesus

>From what we saw in Adventures, what the fuck makes you think this game, from the old trailers, would have been any good, or a financial success in the waning days of the Nintendo 64 and the upcoming release of the Gamecube?

Whatever it turned out to be would have been a better outcome than we got; the very fact we wouldn't have an out-of-place Zelda rip-off Star Fox game that started the whole era of no-one caring for the franchise already makes this fact.

>Oh you mean like Fara Phoenix?

Who never even made it into the games and was rightfully forgotten?

>And Katt to Falco?

Katt at least has a personality.

>The primary reason people like you bitch about DP turning into Adventures is because muh Krystal's a damsel now.

Or that Nintendo fucked over a game in addition to starting the slump of the Star Fox franchise?

>You mean it's a retread of the "save Corneria and the Lylat System from the evil Andross" plot that Star Fox (SNES), Star Fox 2 (SNES, scrapped in favor of 64 because the SNES was at the end of its life, hmm sound familiar? These games also feature 2 female pilots to play as and might have feature Fara as a third. No one cried about them being cut and never coming back) and Star Fox 64 all have?

And unlike prior reboots, actual new stuff happened this time (eg. Aparoid Invasion) in the games that followed. 64 rebooting the SNES game had nothing to lose. Zero is a reboot to pander to nostalgiafags since 64 is the game they won't get over (notice how the last release in the series was a 64 port and how Fox had his 64 voice actor in Smash 4?). Also I've seen many people who want Miyu and Fay to return.

>You notice these reboots constantly come about because the games featuring this basic plot are all considered not only the best received but also the best selling?

So why doesn't Mario reboot itself every generation?

Because after 64 Nintendo stopped giving a fuck about Star Fox and outsourced it to other developers. Nintendo nearly killed the series through their own apathy.

>Is too hard to realize that Nintendo just wants to go the safe, popular, and profitable route when it comes to their works?

Is it too hard to realise this is lazy and people like series to evolve over time rather than stagnate?

I don't even get half the shit you're trying to say at this point.

>Whatever it turned out to be would have been a better outcome than we got; the very fact we wouldn't have an out-of-place Zelda rip-off Star Fox game that started the whole era of no-one caring for the franchise already makes this fact.

And what about Dinosaur Planet wouldn't make it come off as riding on the heels of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask? And would that shit sell if the Nintendo 64 was going out the door in favor of the Gamecube? This simple fact keeps eluding you and I don't know why. And Star Fox got two sequels that were actual Star Fox games and people didn't like them. I have no reason to believe Adventures or Krystal herself had anything to do with that.

>Who never even made it into the games and was rightfully forgotten?

Yes goddammit, forgotten and faggots like you did not bitch about it one bit

>Katt at least has a personality.

That still doesn't change the fact that virtually all of the relationships in Star Fox are simple and one dimensional. This is not Macross, watch Macross or play a Macross game if you want relationship hurdles and complex emotions.

>Or that Nintendo fucked over a game in addition to starting the slump of the Star Fox franchise?

For fucks sake, what Nintendo did to this is jaywalking compared to what they usually do and continue to do and especially compared to what Microsoft did to Rare since they just made them remake Conker, make a half hearted Perfect Dark prequel as a launch title to the Xbox 360 and then fuck off to Kinect titles. Why the fuck do think that Dinosaur Planet would be some kind of magnum opus or hit title and was only stopped because Fox and the Arwing was in it and on the Gamecube?

>And unlike prior reboots, actual new stuff happened this time (eg. Aparoid Invasion) in the games that followed. 64 rebooting the SNES game had nothing to lose. Zero is a reboot to pander to nostalgiafags since 64 is the game they won't get over (notice how the last release in the series was a 64 port and how Fox had his 64 voice actor in Smash 4?). Also I've seen many people who want Miyu and Fay to return.

Did you forget or ignore the fact that Star Fox 2 was already done? So people want Miyu and Fay to come back, whoop dee do, so do I. I just don't think Nintendo "ruined" or "fucked over" anything or anyone simply because they didn't. Zero, while a reboot, also seems to be a throwback to elements of the SNES Star Fox. The design of Corneria seems to be a mix of all the games that featured it. The Arwing getting it's walker form back and the platforming levels plus the way Star Wolf rivals arrive one pilot at a time with a focus on their craft coming in with a frontal shot is directly from the canned Star Fox 2. Only time will tell if this will do any good, but given the performance of Star Fox, 64, and 64 3DS, the answer might be yes.

>So why doesn't Mario reboot itself every generation?

How the fuck do you reboot Mario when the Mario formula is make shitton of 2d/2.5d sidescrollers, the occasional 3d games that sell well but not as much as their sidescrolling counterparts, and shit load of spinoffs like: Mario Golf, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, whatever the fuck the Mario Soccer games are called. Star Fox doesn't do that because whenever they step too far from their rail shooting their way through the Lylat System, they tend to do poorly or just not as well as the good ol' Star Fox vs. Andross

A pair of sources on how the mainline Mario games sell

http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Mario

http://www.gamecubicle.com/features-mario-units_sold_sales.htm

>Because after 64 Nintendo stopped giving a fuck about Star Fox and outsourced it to other developers. Nintendo nearly killed the series through their own apathy.

Once again: http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Best_selling_Nintendo_games

Star Fox as a whole just doesn't sell all that well. They could have made each and every title themselves and made as much spinoffs as they did with Mario and it likely would not have changed a damn thing. This is not hard to understand

>Is it too hard to realise this is lazy and people like series to evolve over time rather than stagnate?

Like Mario? Like Call of Duty? Did what 343 do to Halo work out any better than the original trilogy and 2 spinoffs with Bungie? It turns out if a formula sells, it's best not to fuck with it. So your talk about people wanting evolution and innovation doesn't match with what sells, and it definitely doesn't match what happened with Star Fox.

>I don't even get half the shit you're trying to say at this point.

That's because you don't know a fucking thing about Star Fox or how the gaming industry works. You think your ideological bullshit trumps capitalism, when a publisher just wants a product that sells to appease and attract shareholders and investors and they won't get that with the shit you or other agenda pushing fuckwits spew.

Dear Lord, the lack of reading comprehension. It's not about not making new games, it's about ensuring a game can sell more than not at all by repurposing it for an existing franchise on a shiny new games console. This should not be so fucking hard to understand. You don't make a new game, a new IP, from a studio that generally doesn't make best sellers, on console that is about to be replaced by it's successor in less than a year. Please tell me what part of that is confusing so I can elaborate.

And don't talk that shit about no new games being made when there are daily Splatoon threads on /v/

>Dinosaur Planet was going to be about you know working with dinosaurs to fight other dinos

Gee, I wonder how a wolf with a sword and a blue furred waifu with a staff are gonna fight them dinos. Wonder how that kind of game would play out. Oh yeah, exactly the same as what we fucking got, just with no sword.

Because clearly no other game has ever been reworked in the hopes that it will generate more sales. I mean capitalism is a myth right? Reminder that Nintendo is the fucking company that sells on disc DLC locked behind collectible figurines.

>Is that really how you want to live?

Well, I don't assume Nintendo is some kind of misogynist war criminal just because I didn't get a quasi-Zelda with a blue waifu doing backflips and jabbing energy balls. I do think they're woefully incompetent in how they handled the Wii and Nintendo of America's fuckery in general, plus the aforementioned on disc DLC. If you don't want to believe or even care that Nintendo jews out just as much as any other AAA publisher that's fine. First off, a series that has only sold around 12 million across the franchise's lifespan won't exactly be a priority in the eyes of a publisher. I dreamt of seeing scenes of anthro animals in space suits with grav boots pulling off wacky stunts jumping from spaceship to spaceship, on-rails segments where shit is happening throughout the screen all the time and dialogue during it that has a rough feel of assault but more humorous and on steroids, the musical celebration of each high rank goon you take out after a bossfight, and the threads of /v/irgins and /furry/ assmad at Krystal's suggestive stunts. Seriously I'd like the sexy to be there not even for the sexy itself, but only for the hours over hours of autism it triggers.

Amazing that you can notice that when it comes to Mario, yet fail to see the exact same thing with Star Fox.

>And what does this have to do with what I said about retconning three Star Fox games?

It really takes a special kind of retard to have the same thing constantly explained to them. I mean what is hard about rebooting a franchise to sell a new console? If you meant Adventures, Assault and Command, they didn't sell well, so revitalizing the franchise and attracting newcomers with a reboot on the WiiU is an attempt to both get the series to sell again and get the WiiU to sell.

>So you say Star Fox being rebooted works because the plot is "save Corneria and the Lylat System from the evil Andross" most of the time, but Mario can't when the plot is "Save Peach from Bowser" most of the time?

Star Fox from 64 onward featured other plots and narratives with continuity, Mario (barring spinoffs) hasn't unless there's one I missed. If we're talking game mechanics the largest deviations Mario has done has been in the 3D games where one involved a water spitting backpack and other involved space.

Well Zelda's a better example then. There is a lot of extra stuff but a good portion of them are "Rescue Zelda and defeat Ganondorf" with some side-plot. Plus most of them aren't direct sequels so you aren't really lost if you play a later game in the timeline.

>The difference is this one didn't screw over a new IP, since Doki Doki Panic was just a licensed game

>new IP

>licensed game

Those two terms contradict each other

Anyway, Doki Doki was never released internationally, so the effect is more or less similar. Doki Doki didn't get canned like DP because the NES wasn't being phased out by the SNES at the time and there was no expectation it would have sold poorly in Japan.

>And no-one cares here about your willingness to pay for the same shit over and over. You're the useful idiot publishers love.

I don't pay for this shit. Stating what I thought was the obvious is not an implicit support of their business practices. Something you and SJWs fail to grasp.

>Plenty of game series don't do this though.

Ok, now you can't pretend not to grasp this concept and then do in the exact same post, it just makes you look like a retard with no sense of coherence. Ever notice these game series that don't do this don't try to release brand new IPs right when the new console is 6-8 months away from release? Ever notice these series that don't reboot and still sell the game at the end of a console's lifespan end up releasing an "HD Rerelease" on the new console anyway. This is also one of the reasons the new consoles don't have backwards compatibility. And even at their worst, they don't tank so badly that they have no choice but to reboot.

>And why pander to 64 fanboys if we're attracting newcomers?

It worked when 64 came out didn't it? You can pander to more than one demographic, it's just not ideal, especially if you're going for the "please everyone" route. That shit just won't work.

No it isn't. If Dinosaur Planet was only Star Fox Adventures in some countries while the original game was released in others it would be a solid comparison.

Man, some of the people in this thread. smh

Holding Krystal responsible for lower sells of the series is a stupid argument. It's stupid how idiots band together and try to pass this retarded notion as truth. The 3DS has a large install base, yet the remake/port (Star Fox 64 3D) didn't do so well at all. I wouldn't be surprised if SFZ doesn't sell well. I'm not hyped for this upcoming game. This is mainly due to the fact that it's not a continuation of the story. Storywise, I want something that comes after the Aparoids (nothing that follows Commands route). For those who try to say I'm not a real Star Fox fan: Fuck you, I own/played every Star Fox game including Star Fox 2.

It's hilarious how people try to hate on Adventures because Fox was outside his Arwing. SF64 introduced on-foot first (multiplayer). "It's too different. It's not on rails anymore." In Star Fox 2 you spend most of the time in all range mode. You also need to solve simple puzzles as a Walker. Star Fox 2 is way different from the original.

Krystal mostly gets hate simply because she's female, and that she's Fox's love interest. Imagine if Krystal was a tribal male instead… Furfags would accept that more because it's just another male to their yaoi headcanon collection. There isn't much character development to Panther, and yet, he's seen as a "badass" among these shippers. In fact, I've seen genderswap Krystal get way more positive attention from haters and shippers. The "superior version" of Krystal. How Krystal "should've been from the very start."

Headcanon/Star Fox yaoi shippers take petty shit WAY too seriously. It's Fucking pathetic.

Yeah, I agree. Adventures is a shit game, but not because on-foot gameplay is necessarily bad; of course it isn't. It's just the execution was bad.

>There isn't much character development to Panther

There isn't much character development to anyone in the series. The point of some of the complaints about Krystal (mine included) is that she's an absolutely bland character. No personality whatsoever — something that Panther at least has.

then it's just an obscure cult title from the end of the N64. maybe some porn exists (okay definitely porn exists) but none of it is tied with star fox because it's not a big budget AAA launch title anymore.

We get a real Star Fox game earlier in the GC's life, Krystal never becomes cancer (and probably gets more char. development too since Adventures really was a disgusting shoehorning), everyone wins.

>I'd be shocked if it doesn't sell the WiiU with the game if the game is actually good

Smash is a huge series. Star Fox doesn't have that caliber. The WiiU is still Nintendo's worst selling console. I don't see Star Fox Zero moving millions of consoles upon release. SF64 is called "the greatest SF game." and yet SF64 3D didn't even do better than its N64 counterpart in sells… on a handheld that did better than the WiiU in sells. SF64 3D is nowhere near SF64 in sells.

>Even funnier when you consider those very people would insist the original Dinosaur Planet would have been better if Krystal was doing the exact same thing and there was no Arwing minigame.

You lost me. I'm not assuming Dinosaur Planet would've been better. I didn't even mention Dinosaur Planet.

Then you're obviously oblivious to the stupidity Krystal receives.

>You might be playing the wrong genre, m8. Expecting or having story as a priority in a shmup is pretty silly.

How so? I've been following this series ever since I was a kid (early 90's). To me, Star Fox is more than blowing up baddies, high scores and old ass memes. It's not every year we get a Star Fox game. Wanting a story that takes place after Assault isn't ludicrous.

>Thinks Krystal is bland, but Panther has personality.

Please, Panther has nothing. He's just there as a triangle character. The first thing he did when he made his debut was flirt with Krystal. Constantly trying to cozy up to Krystal isn't personality/background. Without Krystal, Panther would be just some Star Wolf member.

On top of that, I really just can't understand why people would say she's a bad character in context. Like, who the fuck are they comparing her to? Everyone in Star Fox is as one note as a fucking G1 transformer. Falco is a smart alec. Peppy is old. Slippy is a dweeb. Wolf is cocky. Krystal has a microcosm more depth to her by being cool on the outside and passionate on the inside, which as in Assault onwards she's a psion rather than a sorceress effectively makes her act pretty much like a Jedi… but also in context, that's REALLY not a big step up from the more one note characters.

Wolf is a pretty interesting character. His rugged looks, especially his redesign, his general no-nonsense attitude, his grizzled old veteran status since he knew Fox's dad. In the game he's never really just out to kill you, he's just pushing you away and acting as a defense as he was hired for, otherwise he'd be hunting you down on every planet every opportunity his ship is repaired.

The only circlejerking I see are Star Fox furfags who prefer Male + Male sex. From what I've seen: Bi furries don't really hate on Krystal like that.
