I think it's good not to grab shit like famous popufurs and popular artists, I'd say grab something good, but not known to most people. You kinda need to balance it out in terms of quality to being well-known. Keep in mind that lots of people already yank shit from e621 and such, finding duplicate images can be kinda off-putting. That's my perspective, at least.
As far as finding RP goes, I personally spend a lot of time in chatrooms, just talking to people. Eventually you'll kinda figure out who's to your liking, get friendos you can hang out and RP with, it's kinda natural. Plus you'll get offers from others too if they're interested. The other way to do it would be to just search for characters you like and approach them. The downside is that they need to like you from the first sight basically, plus it's harder to identify who's trash tier and who isn't. But, it might get you yiffs faster.
