In my opinion, it's because Nick has a surprisingly 'straight' body type, and in general has an oddball attitude.

He's neither feminine enough to be a cute sub or a sexy femguy, nor is he masculine enough to be le funny baradom of wrestlefucking.

It's like trying to gay up Duke from Fear and Loathing, or Randal from Clerks.
