>Popularity declines, commissions dry up, have to go back to real job

In other words, it's your fault, guys.

Use the Kanye West/Adam Wan/Jasonafex/Donald Trump method, duh.

Put out okay stuff at first to make people like you. Then you get a little too cocky from getting too famous too fast, thump your chest unnecessarily just to constantly remind people you're still there.

Now here's where the magic happens, so pay attention.

Once you've gotten a following from a group of mouthbreathers so pathetic that they look for any source of outside validation (furries, Republicans, niggers) then you need to create a climate where not liking you anymore is considered "uncool."

This is especially easy with furries, since they use other people's work to define themselves at every single turn. They will fight to the death to defend their favorite artist because they've now decided to identify as "your fan," and if anyone says anything bad about their idol they take it personally, since that's the same as telling them that they are shit for liking that person, to them anyways since you've now locked them into a state of "identity dependence."

This is how you start a "defense force." So now what do you do with that defense force? You use them to do your dirty work. They will kick and scream and do -anything- to make sure that their popufur of choice is still "cool" so they are still "cool" for liking them.

For instance, you can have a fan of yours make a death threat to another popufur on Twitter. Now all of those people have seen your name, but you didn't have to do anything bad to put it out there, your fan did all the work and therefore gets to take the fall. Then other people start saying "well dang, people go to bat for this popufur and not MY popufur, I must not be cool anymore" and suddenly wololo themselves into your camp.

Sprinkle a few crazy vague statements every few weeks when people stop talking about you, just to get your name on tongues again, and back off. Rinse and repeat and you'll be a popufur in literally no time, source is my own personal story
