>download latest Gnome 3 update
>weird ugly lines between menus
>transparency replaced by ugly gray
>giant-ass icons
>DOUBLE CLICKING doesn't fucking open shit (we tablet now)

Alright, the Gnome team went full fucking retard. Where do I go now? I hate cinnamon, KDE is ugly as always. i3 is usable, but it takes forever to configure it into a non-ugly configuration because the team is full >muh minimalism, and most of that involved using Gnome.

I'm so assblasted, this might force me to start another DE...

Anyway, DE thread.

Have you tried MATE? xfce is pretty nice, too.

That's Linux for you. First they only develop it until it sort of works on their computers, then everyone fixes their fucking bugs and by that time the original developer releases a "new and improved" product. The cycle repeats. And on Linux they feel the need to keep reinventing the wheel while bloating the fuck out of it.

Use openbox + tint2 + conky + skippy-xd all on ARCH.

I feel exactly the same as you with GNOME, just saw the updates as well adn decidsed to go full minimalism without sacrificing features I used to have in gnome.

This uses 167MB at cold boot.

How do you achieve those damn good visuals?

I've recently installed the slim lubuntu and it runs fast, yet I don't like it's visuals.

How do I achieve that?

I'm so jealous right now

 No.2237

>>2233

Just install openbox + tint2, learn how to use and configure theme, find a nice GTK theme and you'll get awesome visuals.

Reading the post worked for me. You should try it too. I highly recommend it.

I am writing a script the aotomated the installation of my openbox/tint2/"a bunch of other programs" configuration and themes on Arch.

Let me know if you want it, I'll send you a link

MATE's cool. It's like GNOME 2 basically. LXDE and Xfce are also very light and similar. LXDE uses less memory than MATE, while Xfce uses a little bit more.

nice GET also use LXDE

What version op? I just installed Kali Linux 2.0 on my laptop. It's now rolling. Gnome 3.14.1 with Kali 2.0 is the best ui experience I've had in years. Screen brightness works, sound blaster and volume now work, great icon pack, runs butter smooth.

>sound blaster and volume

Are you meaning the X-Fi console will work in this distro? Or at least 3D audio? I really need 3D audio for headphones.

its also really easy to use mate with i3

i use i3 with a solarized dark theme, but i now added skuppy-xd to that with the shortcut $mod+m

It is awesome thanks for showing me!

I haven't used a linux distro in a while. Just tried Kubuntu. KDE5 is fucking off da chain. Best alternative to Win10 which I left because they want to fuck your privacy.

GNU+Linux VMware = slow, GNU+Linux guest, freezes host constantly -- freezes xfce4,kde4,plasma 5,cinnamon,openbox,gnome.

Windows VMware = normal speed, host almost never freezes

Windows > Gnu Linux

System specs

>Intel i5-3570k

>HD 4000 gpu

>8GB Ram

Your Gnu / Linux cannot provide gpu passthrough for GNU+Linux guests with KVM.

Linux is for servers, BSD is for servers, Windows and Mac OSX for desktop.

You'll never guess my tripcode

>GNOME 3

Absolutely horrible

>I hate Cinnamon

Cinnamon is good GNOME 3

>KDE is ugly

Fucking what? Of all the things to bash KDE for, being ugly is not one of them.

>i3 takes forever to configue

**haven't used i3 tbh but thinking of trying it soon

>no mention of xfce, MATE, lxde, or lxqt

Why not? They're great. LXQT in particular is exciting because it's a way to use QT without having to have all of the resource usage of KDE.

 No.4208

I love cinnamon too, it reminds me of mac os 7 with the sound effects turned on. I wish other desktop environments would provide options to set sounds for all the actions cinnamon does. Not to mention quadrant window snapping in addition to the side by side view, why isn't that standard in floating window managers by now?

 No.4221

Awesomewm

Lua is easy as shit to script in so you can configure it fast. Not to mention there are dozens of awesome configs out there (just google).

Its fast and stable. After awesomewm every othe wm/de feels like bloated, counter-intuitive garbage.

All window management is done from the keyboard and you'll use your screen space much more efficiently.
