I just deleted my Google account. Just like that. I had a bunch of paid Android apps, and didn't even look at what I had in Google Drive (it had been almost a year since I last checked, so I figured I wouldn't miss it anyway).

Let me tell you, it feels great to throw away shit you think you need but actually don't.

Of course Google and the NSA will cherish my data forever, but I will not be feeding them any further via that particular inlet.

You'll be back.

Hey, I'm back! Oh, you mean to Google?

Yeah, that's what they said about my Facebook account and my Whatsapp account.

Shit time flies. I think it's been 5 or 6 years now since I quit fucking Facebook.

I still have a Yahoo! and an Apple account. Yahoo will go sooner or later, I just need to use my self-hosted email more and more over the following three years or so, so that people stop contacting me at Yahoo. All my work-related shit goes through my self-hosted company email already.

Apple is going to be tricky, though, at least for now. Same for Steam. Those two I don't see myself getting rid of soon.

I tell you, it's fucking liberating, and easier than it sounds.

Cmon, tell me your success stories.

So I'm guessin you use an iphone for work?

I currently use an iPhone (I only have 1 phone). I've had androids, blackberries and Gentoo phones so far in the last five years. As soon as my phone company releases me from my shackles next April I'm planning on buying an old dumbphone and using that for cellphone stuff with the cheapest plan available. I will probably keep the iPhone for smartphony stuff on wifi (mainly for using telegram) until it breaks (these motherfuckers fucking decompose over time).

I really wished the N900 became a reality, but we'll see.

I deleted my Facebook 1 year and a half ago after most people if not everyone I was friends with became irredeemably shitty in one way or another and haven't looked back. Before I did, I changed my account profile picture/name and unfriended/blocked family members, anybody I had previously sent messages to, and anyone that may have affected my job but left everyone else. I also set my privacy to either only me or friends only on everything I could. Then I went on a giant shitposting spree that lasted through the weekend and a "sick" day. I selected 5-10 people total to harass and the salt I received while I pestered them was glorious, but deleting my Facebook was also pretty satisfying. I would 100% recommend doing what I did before deleting your Facebook to anybody on here.

On the other hand, I haven't used G+/YouTube since all the comment chains I was participating in are just boring now and I don't feel like dealing with those people anymore for no entertainment. There are easier and more entertaining ways to get angry. I'll probably delete those accounts when I take the time to log in again, if having the playlists to organize videos and have it run back-to-back without stopping doesn't lure me back into logging on often.
