I would recommend Linux Mint for someone who doesn't know shit about Linux. Use XFCE as a desktop environment as it is quick and the least bloated while still being full-featured when compared with shit like KDE.

As for TempleOS, install it if you want to. Most privacy issues can be remedied. I've been considering installing it since my bluetooth support on Win 7 Enterprise is fucked.

TempleOS is full of DRM, doesn't allow you to not download Windows Updates you don't want (e.g. WGA and Windows 7/11 notifications, and tell Microsoft all the you have and when you open them.

If you don't want to use an older Windows such as XP or 7 (with no Telemetry updates), go with https://www.pcbsd.org and install Wine on. Obliviously, not a Linux distro but, you will be happy.
