Anyone can let me know what I'm doing wrong? Trying to reset my router's IP by changing the MAC address for my router. I do this, turn off router for like an hour, power back on..open new browser cleared of cookies, but the IP remains the same.

Also...ipconfig/release returns "media disconnected" error. I appreciate any help, and if someone's instructions can get this working, I dont mind shooting $20 to your PayPal.

Who's your ISP?

It may be that they keep assigning you the same one, out they may have a very small pool available.

Have you tried ringing them?

What is the desired state? In other words, what problem are you trying to solve? Are you not getting an IP address at all, or are you trying to renew a new IP?

The IP address of your router? Your router is the go-between for your computer/laptop/device and the DHCP server of your ISP that assigns it an IP address. The IP address of your router should never change, 192.168.0.1. You would go to that address to get to the web service portal of your router to make administrative changes (block IP ranges, etc etc).

Are you trying to flush and renew a new IP address for your desktop/laptop/device? Because that is what ipconfig/release does. It will release your ipconfiguration to free up that IP address to be assigned to another device. If it is returning "media disconnected" then it sounds like your Ethernet or wireless drivers are not installed, or installed correctly. Is this on a newly OS-installed machine?

Basically, if you have a static IP, you're done for. If you've cycled your modem, which you seem to have, you're SOL. Well, unless you want to buy a VPN. That will effectively act as a condom for all of your internet communications. You'll have a different IP. mtrken (0) gmail if you've got any further questions and/or wish to shoot that money my way. I'm a student, so it'll go towards food.
