The goal is to make a better tech board with less rules and restrictions.

Feel free to post as many desktop and tech support threads you want.

The global rules still apply of course.

6562b9 No.17

Some rules.

Basically lets try to keep this place SFW, There really isn't any need to post nudies on a tech board anyway lol.

Want me to change enable something or disable something?

Want to tell me to go fuck myself?

Post it here.

Okay, so basically a friend of mine's harddrive crashed… On a mid-2010 Macbook Pro.

Now, after going through certain people I was able to get a USB bootable of OS X El Capitan, along with an SSD to replace it.

>Insert USB with new SSD

>Boot options shows the OS X installer and "Windows" HD

>go to Install

>must be partitioned first

>ofcourseitdoes.jpg

>Won't let me partition

>try to "erase"

>Can not write last block

The fuck?

Okay, what am I doing wrong?

Parabola.

Linux goes fast with or without freedom, but wouldn't you rather be with than without?

Personally I use Ubuntu with MATE desktop.

So far I like it. A lot more themes than fucking Gnome 3.

Seriously, fuck Genome 3.

To the /g2/ owner:

I am about to buy an ad for my board, /tech2/. I was wondering if you wanted in on the ad. I've also invited the owner of /gentoo/ as well. I'm not asking to split the price of the ad, I just want more choice in where we all can go for technology discussion. Still waiting on /gentoo/'s owner to respond.

Board owner here, I actually lost the password to this board and have no way to retrieve it so this board will most likely be deleted or taken over by someone else within the next week or so.

Good luck with /tech2

c178de No.54

>>53

Have you tried emailing hotwheels? I lost the password to /tech2/, too, and was able to get it back very easily.

c178de No.55

>>54

Better yet, I'll take it off of your hands and run the boards in paralell. /tech2/ has a very tight set of rules and I think having /g2/ to offset that would be a good idea.

722d58 No.56

>>54

No because i don't really care about it anymore.

>>55

That's fine with me but i don't have the password anymore, You might have to email hotwheels and tell him you want it.

1eb5f6 No.57

>>56

Alright, then. I'm going to move ahead with that plan. /gentoo/'s owner still hasn't replied, so I'm going to go with him not giving a fuck anymore.

For shame…

Can't do this can't do that!

So much for freedom on /tech/

On my board you can advertise your own board as much as you want!

20f68f No.46

Even when it has no real relevance to the thread?

/tech/ allows you to advertise boards in a reasonable way, like the owner of >>>/bsd/ did.

Well, in that case

/tech2/

Yes, you can. There will be a specific tech support thread that isn't stickied.

Yeah i though of opening it but it's vibration sealed…

Also, i think my school has either of these security setups…

1.All the info about the person is on their security card. (in which case i suspect they encrypted it somehow. Although my school isn't the brightest so it might be possible they didn't)

2. All cards have a unique ID which is sent to the main server for entry evaluation. (in which case i can't change jackshit. The server is on an inaccessible subnet.)

e884bc No.32

>>31

I doubt they bothered to encrypt it, What can you do with a hacked card anyway? Sneak into school?

When i was in school i spent most of my time trying to sneak OUT.

feacb7 No.33

>>32

XD True dat.

You're missing the point though. If it has my data on it, it shouldn't be unencrypted.

My intention was to see if i could gain access to our classroom when it is locked off during breaks.

e884bc No.34

>>33

Honestly i would just try to buy a name brand RFID reader, I'm sure they exist.

The RFID data on your school card probably just has an id number that matches your info in the schools database somewhere so it's probably not any personal info.

Only one way to find out though.

feacb7 No.35

>>34

exactly my point, i'm just hoping i can actually pull something like this off.

I've recently got into forensics and it's pretty intersesting. If you've ever wanted to go "under the hood" of comoputers then you should try it out.

Im currently reading this book: The basics of digital forensics by John Sammons.

This website also gives some tutorials on common aquisition methods ,among other security topics: http://resources.infosecinstitute.com

Is there a way I can use Linux as my OS and emulate Winshit or Yosemishit to run Adobe Creative Suite or Creative Cloud products.

I need the Adobe Creative programs, like Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere, etc.

Problem is I'm stuck with Windows or Apple OS.

I'm concerned about security and want to switch to Linux or another WYSIWYG OS if possible.

Do you have advice on making Adobe Creative products run on Linux or a non-Windows/Apple OS?

Is it worth it to switch from Yosemite or Windows to Linux from a RAM standpoint (if an emulator is needed)?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if you can get it to run in WINE or not but i know you could definetely install win7 in a virtualbox then just install your adobe stuff in that.

741fec No.12

Wine apparently works just fine with that shit. I myself only know an obscure old program that is no longer supported and was Windjews (Jasc Paintshop Pro 8) and GIMP and I basically stick to using Linux based stuff. Inkscape apparently works on Linux so I'll be learning that soon enough.
