BATTLE DAMAGE ASSESSMENT:

There are three things that have happened that I haven't seen before on Gawker's sites.

1: There has been no lull in advertising. Previously, the sites would go weeks almost devoid of ads before a new batch appeared.

2: Most of the new ads are not appearing on only one or two of Gawker's sub-sites like they did before, but rather seem to be spread across all or most of them at the same time.

3: Location-targeted ads appeared on the site in ad boxes, some for businesses in my own hometown, and again from a VPN node that I used for the second sweep. These were served by ads.beringmedia.com, a new aggregator not previously seen on Gawker.

In addition to the above, the number of scripts that Gawker's site network loads now is absolutely massive. It slowed a lighting-fast Linux computer to a halt and crashed the browser of my Windows 8 computer at work several times to get this information. With Noscript turned back on, the pages all load and appear normally. This is probably related to Gawker's "customer browsing habits" recordkeeping and sales of that information that we became aware of last year.

I am not an advertising expert, but this all suggests to me that Gawker has changed something in the way they negotiate their ad contracts, and are now aggressively pushing advertisers to do business with them - possibly with higher "bundle" rates for advertising across multiple sites in the Gawker network. The money crunch they're under from the impending Hogan lawsuit and $20,000,000 they've already lost to Disrespectful Nod is doubtlessly a motivating factor in them aggressively pursuing new ad income. Twenty Million Dollarydoos can buy a lot of crooked lawyers, after all.

Regardless,ODN has again born fruit, with several formerly prominent advertisers, Discover Card especially, now absent from Gawker's network.

The boss has entered a new form, and he's got HP regeneration this time. You know what to do.

1a1235 No.247984

If Gawker wants to be a r-rated website with the trashiest gossip, it is our duty to ensure the advertisers are not defrauded.

I have no problem with advertisers on Gawker, but they should be in line with the content that they promote, in this case they should be asking adult porn networks for ads.

>Netflix

I know a lot of you motherfuckers are Netflix customers, as am I. This should be an easy one. Tell them in no uncertain terms that you don't want to support a company that advertises with Gawker and why and threaten to cancel your service.

8c7cc6 No.248054

The boss can only use LifeUp Omega so many times before it runs out of PP. Just keep emailing advertisers.(That's about as powerful as PK Starstorm.) Focus on Gawker and focus on one at a time. Good luck!

6b50dd No.248195

Subway is already under fire for Jared's kiddie love habits. They're weak and PR sensitive right now, so I suggest we give Subway extra attention.

good timing you.

I just came to this thread specifically to ask in what way is Netflix advertising. if I were to write to Netflix, what would I say specifically that they were doing? "I saw your add", "you are listed on <insert URL here> as a sponsor of gawker", "you were announced as a sponsor on <insert TV show here>"

I take every effort to stay away from Gawker so I don't see where Netflix's money is going.

3c5204 No.248248

Do not get discouraged by more advertisers showing up. What is important is not the number of advertisers, but the cost per impression or click that those advertisers are paying. Gawker could be lowering their advertising rates and making far less money.

Imagine a situation where it normally costs $2 per 1000 impressions for ads. Most people don't want to touch Gawker, but Gawker offers $1 per 1000 impressions for ads, meaning your ad campaign reaches significantly more people. At some people, people draw the line and decide that the potential backfire from advertising on Gawker is worth the lowered cost of advertising.

Keep the pressure on and don't let up. Keeping those prices down for Gawker is key to hurting their profits.

Dungeon Defenders is the game. Interesting Kotaku cost them money in 2013. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trendy_Entertainment

9d4250 No.248878

Contacted Netflix's support team and got an email address for their PR department (pr@netflix.com) who should be getting back to me with how long their current advertising deal with gawker is. I'm going with "If you renew I'll feel obliged to cancel my membership" but a few more voices expressing similar sentiment would no doubt be welcome.

7f49d0 No.249002

Hey fa/gg/ots, why are you all ignoring Gawker's international outlets? The ones that have their own separate sets of ads and ad tech vendors?

I suggest emailing the UK and Aussie ad tech vendors next.

The Australian one at least only licensed the name, but is a completely separate entity otherwise. Of course they also seem to push the narrative, but if you want to go after Gawker, then the Aussies are just a distraction.

f4d678 No.252529

Just a thought.

Gawker still has the pics of Lenny Kravitz dick and the Hulk Hogan porn post up, right?

Go to those articles, refresh until you get the advertiser you want to contact's ad, screen shot and email something along the lines of being disgusted they are now apparently a porn company.

Really (politely!) ham up your disgust and offence. Think suburban soccer mom.

I'd bet subway would be especially sensitive.

E. G "First the child porn, now this? Absolutely disgusting, shows what kind of company you are now." etc.

744036 No.252562

>>252529

We could make a reddit post about it and using sock puppets get it onto the front page, make a youtube vid and inflate the views and then get it onto facebook. Make subway think it's going viral.

c875f0 No.253058

I haven't done the whole email activism thing for a while. Would the following suffice?

Hello,

I have sent you this email to inform you that I will, from this point forward, be boycotting all [Company Name] products and services. This is due to the unfortunate relationship you have with [Gawker Site] a member of the Gawker Media network. Gawker recently ran a story disclosing a person's sexual orientation. This individual was not a public figure, and the story did not serve a public interest. The article did nothing but recklessly and cruelly embarrass its subject while casting his and his family's lives into turmoil. I have decided that, after this offense, I cannot support Gawker or anyone who associates with it. Unfortunately, this means that I will be boycotting [Company Name] as long as you continue to run ads on [Gawker Site]. Hopefully, you will consider doing business with more ethical partners in the future.

Thank you for your time,
