Basically what

It no longer exists as either an event or a cohesive unit in any way shape or form. Fell apart into factionalism and basically as near as I can tell almost everybody left.
Only ones left now are either gossip whores, or warring e goons which basically all want to somehow bring back september 2014 so they can have another go at artificially generated fame.
Its really sad, but also really true that this is usually how these things turn out. I am not sure there is anything that could have been done to stop it.
But yea, call me a shill if you want (surely someone will that seems to be the favorite form of trolling around here now), but this is the fact. At this point:
1. As an event its over. Many things, including the larger scale stuff like TPP continue wrt sjws, but this is now outside the original scope of the spontaneous reaction that gamergate was.
2. The "ethics in game journalism" fight basically was won pre spj. Most of the gaming publications either insituted mandatory ethical guidelines and/or got rid of the worst offenders. Of course these guidelines have no overriding watchdog or enforcer so they are entirely arbitrary sadly, thus there is no way to know how accurately they are really being upheld. And there are reasons to doubt certain places are really upholding them at all, and didn't just do it to save face.
3. Most of the nastiest SJWs got purged. That was a victory as well. The likes of harper, leigh alexander, kyle orland, ben kuchera, ect, no longer have any serious platform or real control of anything, and are relegated to lolcow status. Though some of them still have many connections they increasingly day by day have less and less sway, and virtually everyone in both the player communities and the industry now considers them at best a sideshow, and worst total hacks (which they are). There are still some like sarkeesian and quinn which as we saw from the UN, will continue to cause as much trouble as possible, but honestly this leads to point four
4. GG brought the horrors of SJWs, the redpills of the onslaught of neomarxism, and the reality of the corrupt media bloc to the forefront of both worldwide and especially american thinking in the public eye. I would say this was the greatest accomplishment: essentially the red pills becoming "uncontained" and even normal people starting to wake up and question the level of insanity in our government and media/corporate power structures. It's hard to say how this would have progressed or come about without a world with GG, but I think we can say without doubt that GG had significant impact on this front, probably more than it did anywhere else.
All of that said though, at this point the things happening now are not gamergate, they are part of the pushback, the "Swinging of the pendulem" against neo-marxism. Gamergate itself ended after SPJ I think, that was probably the last relevant thing to happen.
And no ggrevolt, I am not an "ethics cuck" nor was I here for the ethics fight, I came to fight sjws and I won, in terms of my enemies in the gaming industry, and am continuing that elsewhere now.
I do recognize however there were people like that, who just came for only the ethics thing, and I never understood that. Even many people in notyourshield knew that was a bullshit argument, "no its only ethics in journalism", and they were arguably the most leftist group that was ever involved. So while these people do exist, and have existed, I think they are given way more credit than they deserve for disruption, they really are outright ridiculous.
All that said tldr:
Tldr yea it ended after SPJ.
