This seems spot on from what I watched.

I tried giving it a shot it with a friend. In episode 1, the fucking insane female lead pretty much tries to kill the protagonist for the dumbest reason possible. So how does he respond to this? By letting her sleep over and then making her breakfast the next day. IIRC she still acted like a little shit to him (I think she started whining about his pet parrot being "ugly" later, what the fuck?)

I have no idea if it gets better. The animation was definitely good and I know people get mad if you drop something after one episode, but I had a huge backlog of stuff to watch that's both visually impressive AND didn't annoy me with its characterization & story in episode 1. I don't want to piss away my time on something just to make the internet happy.

Never watched the anime or manga, but read the novels. Basically it's guy A has a crush on girl A, girl B has a crush on guy B, so guy A and girl B decide to try and help each other with their crush, but over the novels realise they are better off with each other, and their crushes suck.
