Didn't Ghazi already try this? Something something 'Let's try to appeal to the moderates and get them to drop GG'? I remember screencapping it when one of their mods on Twitter claimed that they never tried to split GG.
The thing is, this will never happen, because despite a majority of us being moderates, anyone and anything that disagrees with an SJW is a racist misogynist transphobic shitlord to them. SJWs don't believe we have moderates in the first place, and always assume we're the scum of the earth, even if our involvement was, say, a single tweet. That is because they don't have the maturity to believe in civil disagreement. They see everything as black and white, with no room for gray.
In other words, this isn't going to go anywhere, because for them to even begin to 'separate' what they perceive as 'moderates' and 'extremists', they have to acknowledge there are moderates in the first place, which Anti-GG is absolutely loathe to do because then their narrative that we're all women-bashing neckbeard bigots falls apart. Anti-GG has vehemently been denying anything about us is moderate since the start of this, and they aren't going to turn their backs on that to humor a dude and a paper.
I expect salt to flow from this as they disagree among themselves, and, eventually, prune somebody from the herd for going against their sacred beliefs.

We'll just take those apologies and use that to fuel our burning passion against extremist propaganda brighter than ever before. If anything, that would doom them to a life of dealing with us, because after persevering for a year and finally getting a much-deserved apology, we'll just be motivated all the more to hold on. We're not going anywhere and we're not disappearing. A year-long media blitz on gamers has shown that they don't give a crap about any sense of accuracy or decency when it comes to reporting on us. Group of gamers come together twice a year to raise millions for charity? We don't even get a mention. But using gamers to push false controversy for easy outrage and clicks for ad revenue? All of a sudden they want to report on us, shoveling article after article of shit and inaccuracy without a care.
If /cow/ has taught me anything, people who made their fame and living lying and attacking others for controversy don't ever change. They apologize when things get to their absolute worst, hide for a year or two, and then pop out with an all new outrage and fervor for getting the spotlight on them. All those sites that failed us last year can apologize, and I'll note that, but I will not return to them. There's dozens of alternatives that not only do their articles better than a glorified blog post, but do so without throwing me under the bus for a quick click.
