http://www.breitbart.com/tech/2015/11/13/veterans-charity-accused-of-joining-games-press-in-abandoning-gamers/

So Milo has released an article claiming that Operation Supply Drop, a charity centered around easing veterans back into the civilian world via video games, is trying to now distance itself from gamers and reform itself into a more general charity fund to rival that of the likes of the Wounded Warrior Project. The original founder (Stephen Machuga) has apparently been driven out by the new CEO (Glenn Banton) due to this attempted shift of focus and Stephen has pledged to start a new foundation Stack-Up.org with the original goals of OSD in mind.

Now, like the article says, Banton is free to try and change the charity's focus, but he should not do so by deceiving gamers and diverting their funds from a gaming focus to other expenses. I think we should look more into this Banton character's history and if shady, warn people donating to OSD about their shift in priorities. We should also look into Stack-up.org and see if it's legit; if it is, we can redirect gamer's support.

Milo is a dumbass.

Tell me how helping veterans in all aspects of life is bad? Focusing solely on games is fucking stupid. They don't need games, they need money and jobs, you dumb twats.

Tell me how Brietbart isn't just like Gawker or Stormfront?

>implying Milo doesn't secretly hate veterans, since he's so much like Bill Hicks. He just wants another reason to cry like the cunt he is.

Must hurt to get chased out of your own creation.

Tell me how you're not an painfully obvious D&C shill.

If you read the actual article, they even say that Banton is free to try and change the charity's focus away from gaming, but that people donating should be aware of the change.

If someone donates their games and systems to the charity with the expectation it be sent to veterans either home or abroad to help them in their daily lives, then those things should be used for those purposes; not sold by the organization to fund the wages of the administrators of the charity.

But like >>298818 said, you're probably not being sincere anyways.

What kind of games would a vet trying to recover from crippling PTSD,survival Guilt and a host of war related stress want to play?

I'd imagine TRIPLE AAA FPS games are out of the question or any game that involves guns.

Oh goodie, another Milo thread.

Fuck off.

At a certain stage in recovery triple AAA cawadoody games might actually be really helpful, in that they let a veteran approach their PTSD triggers in a safe and controlled environment.

Actual PTSD therapy isn't about slapping trigger warnings on everything and creating a safe space, it's about retraining your brain to confront the things that hurt you in a controlled way to show yourself that you are able to do so without falling apart.

>Be war veteran

>Get PTSD

>Play Cawoody style games online

>Casually talk about killing sand people on chat

>Explosions and gunfire trigger flashbacks

>Talk to strangers without fear of repercussions

This sounds therapeutic in a way.

You know, I wonder if VR systems like the Occulus Rift and such would be an asset to PTSD therapy or if that would be taking things too far.

92719e No.299135

>>299069

It totally is. Not right away when you come back, but a year or two down the line once you've got basic day-to-day functioning back and want to start reducing the PTSD symptoms. I had never heard of this charity before but it actually sounds super helpful.

>>299094

Yeah that might be a bit much. I feel like the distance the screen gives you is important to retain control of the situation.

d6c271 No.311549

From the piece:

'“We spoke to one medium-sized indie game studio who told us, ‘I would rather go bankrupt and live in a cardboard box on the street than support veterans.’ We hear that kind of crap all the time. It’s disgusting, in some cases.”'

Yes, I'd imagine that's what happens when you ask Phil Fish for money. Also… there are cases where that isn't disgusting?

Soldiery's distasteful work and I regret all to hell that it's necessary, but IT IS NECESSARY. Regardless of how badly a nation misuses their armed forces, they still need their armed forces, and the civilians are still, almost without exception, better off for that military being in place.

>>298992

What this nigga said.

Safe spaces and trigger warnings aren't a method for overcoming your issues, they're a method to allow your issues to dictate the terms of your daily life, while providing you the illusion of safety and a mild level of comfort that can both be ripped away really, really fast.
