I doubt he cares much about the current state of video games and just goes through the motions. There's probably a part of him that wants to be a real journalist again but he loves money too much to leave his current cushy job.

Ask him why the game awards are so heavily politicized. Example being last years Game of the Year - Dragon Age Inquisition.

Mediocre game that had barely launched at the time it won the award. It sold poorly as well.
