Now I'm sure the game sucks for a variety of reasons, but this part of the review is unwarranted and bad:

>One scene in particular stands out as egregiously offensive and juvenile. Upon entering a bar filled with women in g-strings (and nothing else), you're confronted by slow zooms and pans on a stripper in the center of the room. An equally-naked DJ calls for your head, but not before the camera shifts to a close-up of her exposed, undulating body. This scene is justified by the plot as a place where men gather, but that premise–because the setting could have been a number of other less salacious locations–is a farce. There's no explicit need to showcase nipples for minutes on end for the story to accomplish its goal. To add insult to injury, upon meeting your mark after your battle with the DJ, he repeatedly refers to her as "that dead bitch." Afro Samurai 2 needlessly objectifies women for the sake of nothing but titillation and attitude. The reverb from this particular blare of ignorance is deafening.

This. Also, controversies like this are why video games are still considered children's toys and not "art." They're still controlled by shitty criticism. Meanwhile you can shit and menstruate on canvases and get it recognized by major private and government institutions as "art."

Nah, important film critics take movies to task for shallow audience pandering and male gaze camera angles all the time. Nobody has questioned film as a valid artform for decades.

Honestly, I don't care about a few critics here and there saying stuff like this. You can make money making things that are not universally critically acclaimed, and stuff like this will continue to get made as long as people buy it. It's only when the government says you can't do stuff, or when major industry bodies try to stamp things out that you have trouble. A critic saying, "I felt this scene was poorly justified, but was included just to pander" is a legit criticism. I want developers to justify their thongs, too.

But you're not required to be "the audience that likes that kind of thing" in order to write down your opinion about it.

If the developers are trying to make a statement or appeal to a very particular group of people, the price of doing that is getting dismissed or shot down by people outside of that niche. If you're unwilling to pay that price, just make bland stuff.

I like women in thongs, but I also like solid storytelling. I don't think it's too much to ask that the former be supported by the latter. I don't think it's unfair to note that a developer fails to live up to my expectations as a gamer.

There are three topless women: the dancer in the middle, the DJ, and one off to the side. Not what I imagined when I heard "filled with women in g-strings." It seems that the whole fucking game is in slow motion so bitching about the camera moving slowly in this particular scene is retarded. The "zooms" he talks about are still half the room away when they finish, for a while I wasn't even sure if the stripper had nipples she was so far away. The person you meet after the battle calls the DJ "that dead bitch" once, so he's just totally offended by the use of the word bitch ever to the point that he can't even count past one once he hears it.

The game looks fucking terrible, but this is just so retarded to complain about. He misrepresents what happens both in ways that are somewhat subjective and in ways that are objectively inaccurate.
