Truly, one should not trumpet false victories ignorant of losses. Gamergate was nothing but a victory for the right, you attacked the middle ground and got them sympathetic to us. But what will the anti gamergate people do? This movement defines them.

The Civil War still has Lost Causers crying about how the Rebellion never really lost. Some people are just too stubborn to move on. That's the GamerGate rump. Maybe they'll find something else to do eventually, but more likely anybody who's still personally invested at this point will need to create a narrative about how GG "evolved" or "expanded" so that they don't have to reckon with the idea that this thing that felt important to them was a failure.

Honestly, given the levels of self-loathing I saw at 8ch/GG meetups in NYC, that might be the safest option for them. It would suck to learn that somebody killed himself because he decided that GG failing meant that he was a failure, or that the world was too corrupt to bother living in anymore.

If you had spent any amount of time here you would have seen that from the beginning most people knew that gamergate wasn't going to be acknowledged as effecting positive changes. When you are primarily criticizing the incestuous relationship the media has with those it covers, the way it tries to play kingmaker by grasping praise on some while scorning others, and the way it writes articles completely detached from reality or truth of course that selfsame media will never acknowledge anything worthwhile you do.

You try to preemptively discredit anyone who disagrees with you because you know you're full of shit.

Every time you see a comments section of an article complaining there aren't any Rey toys filled with people saying "but that's wrong" it's gamergate winning. Every time you read "oh btw I know it's not important but this person I'm reporting on and I are friends" you know that journalist put it there because they have to now and are downplaying it because they did not want to.

Even if you discount everything that's been accomplished, we still became a rallying point, the first real, organized fight back against this modern form of tyranny. People from the entire breadth of the political spectrum who were just as sick of the state of things as we are have found each other because of GG. We kickstarted cultural libertarianism as a movement in itself, and now it's grown well beyond us.

They can call GG the Great Satan all they want, very few of us ever wanted a victory parade. We just wanted to play videogames in peace.

That's why online movements fizzle. Because they're very ad-hoc, with everyone doing whatever the fuck they want, no clear moves, no leadership, just a bunch of assholes claiming that in order to further their own goals. In-fighting and drama, paranoia over anyone and anything, inability to refine the movement and so on.

This isn't just a GG thing, it happens everywhere. Tea Party, OWS, Chanology, Arab Spring, BLM, and the list could go on and on. At least the Tea Parties got strong enough to have presidential candidates and elected people in Congress, and I guess the OWS people have Bernie as potential democratic nominee. But nothing earth-shattering, that's my point.

The Internet is just too structurally inefficient to lead somewhere. It can agitate the waters a bit, make some noise, but it's not going to evolve into something else if there's no clear direction and leadership.

We haven't made any nonSJW gaming website popular, no one cares about TechRaptor, Zoe Quinn has got more attention and money than she ever deserved, our documentaries were failures, the initial e-celebs who supported our cause like Jontron or Baldwin backed off while others like Milo or Ralph just profit for their own agenda or personal gain, our boards have died and had shitty mods and infighting again and again, people are tired of doing activities and operations and now are just bitching, Kotaku is still surviving and Hulk Hogan did more damage to Gawker in a single strike that we could.

The only thing that GG helped was spread the truth about SJWs and help make anti-SJW sentiment common on the Internet. Which is good in the long run, but not if they fight back harder and silence that position more and more.

That's really the ultimate problem with "anonymous" and meanderless movements. If we don't have a bunch of people to actually do shit, like sueing this websites, making new and better websites, looking into the corruption in the indie scenes and the nepotism bullshit, telling us how to help exactly, then we're just plain noise in the long run.

Doesn't really matter; when it come to vidya, the damage has been done. It's been exposed as the unethical nest of viper it was. We can't expect those who drank the kool aid to ever change and go "GG was right". That will not happen. It would not have hapenned and in that regard I will agree people were certainly disilusionned. Myself include, at times.

As for the rest, well consider the following; you really think anyone seriously involved in this will ever look at the media the same way? There is no going back those of us who were involved. The battle may be lost (despite some key victories) but the war is still coming. The SJW grow crazier every day; I won't pretend victory is assured, far from it, but they have certainly planted the seeds of their demise.

Our victory is not one where we will sing kumbaya around a fire as a new golden era of videogames is ushered. There will not be any victory the label 'Gamergate', we will always be the villains.
