Owen and Aruni made a whole lot of mistakes.
First, it looks like Aruni is an unstable viperous sociopath who cared less about the stated subject of the documentary than having a target to vent his anger at his father onto. Guy's fucking weird. He could use a couple years working construction or landscaping or some sort of labor heavy job to make him less of a blazing faggot. The fuck does he even do for a living?
Owen seems mostly well intentioned but a bit of a sucker, a bit desperate, a bit of a buffoon, and a whole lot of sperg.
Two people could share writing and direction duties for a doc like this but they'd need a producer and that's something they didn't have. They needed someone to keep their shit together and work on the thing that they are terrible at… logistics. Well, also filmmaking. They also needed an editor and people who actually know how to use gear. You don't just buy shit and then think you're going to use it. I doubt they even did test runs with the gear to ring it out, get their workflow down, and actually learn how to use it correctly.
They were both too caught up in the idea of being personalities in the film themselves and that was a large part of what really deep sixed it.
Owen might be able to fulfill some possibility eventually, but he keeps biting off more than he can chew and he needs to scale it way the fuck back and learn his ass from his elbow before he thinks he can be the next Herzog.
