http://uk.businessinsider.com/google-buying-twitter-would-be-like-microsoft-buying-yahoo-2015-4?r=US&IR=T (April, 8th 2015)

>Every few months, a rumor crops up that Google is interested in buying Twitter.

>It cropped up again Tuesday morning and may have contributed to a 4% rise in Twitter's stock price.

>Twitter is worth more than $33 billion.

http://qz.com/532083/steve-ballmer-says-he-began-buying-up-twitter-before-he-knew-jack-dorsey-would-become-ceo/ (October 23rd, 2015)

>Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer made headlines last week when he revealed he bought a 4% stake in Twitter.

>For Ballmer, Twitter was appealing precisely because it was struggling—the stock had slid in recent months as investors grew impatient with its CEO search.

http://fortune.com/2016/01/22/buying-twitter/ (January, 22nd 2016)

(for info, Fortune also published an article entitled "In Hogan sex tape fight, Gawker shows a courage rare for digital media" – so yeah, you get the idea)

>In the past three months alone, Twitter ( TWTR -10.22% ) has lost more than 50% of its market value while dropping from $31 to the $17 level, making the company worth about $12 billion. That’s a loss of $38 billion in market value in two years.

>This week, Twitter’s shares got a boost partly because of rumors that News Corp. may be interested.

The only way they are getting a raise on their market value is when there's a rumor of some big company buying the so-called "free speech service", that is because the current management is failing hard and are currently working against their own users (it's becoming easier to get kicked out than sign in).

Investors are confident that any company acquiring the service will do a better job at keeping the thing afloat. While big techs are still interested in competing with FaceBook and its ad revenue, they're not going to achieve that with Twitter: Google learned the hard way that you can't shove a poorly implemented service down user's throat and call it a day.

Having a bunch of SJWs screaming from the top of their lungs that the internet is a dangerous place and every woman using social media will get harassed, plus twitter coming up with the promise that it will "become a safer space" (implying -and confirming- it's currently unsafe) is not helping their business either.

http://fortune.com/2015/08/04/google-buy-twitter/ (August 4th, 2015)

>Google ( GOOG 1.69% ) finally announced recently that it is scaling back its focus on Google+

>Among other things, users will no longer be forced to sign in with a Google+ account when they log on to YouTube and other Google properties

But

>The reason why it launched Google+ hasn’t gone away.

>which is why I think its decision to move away from Google+ makes it even more likely that it will buy Twitter ( TWTR -10.22% ).

http://uk.businessinsider.com/why-google-is-unlikely-to-buy-twitter-2015-8?r=US&IR=T (August 5th, 2015)

>But Google is unlikely to buy Twitter for one simple reason: "Larry Page doesn't give a f–k about Twitter," according to Amir Efrati, a reporter at tech site The Information.

Regardless of whether or not the company shuts down, it will have to change in the way the service is handled: currently they don't know how to sell advertisement nor generate revenues properly, and they are driving their users away.

Hey, anyone knows how G4 and Joystiq are doing lately? Oh right.

Reddit? Facebook? Tumblr? Any other option?

Remember that twitter was a point to share experiences and also socially valued by the niche group. It gave the false illusion that their opinion mattered.

When the blue bird falls we'll have some moments of peace, but soon it will be the same once again. The option against this is to be ready to receive those newcomers, wherever they might arrive.

Problem is the Fed went and increased interest rates so all the cheap easy money investors/speculators could raise to throw at shit like twatter just dried up

And its not just twatter thats feeling the heat, a bunch of other startups are getting their shit kicked in lately, like uber, dropbox, github, linkedin, etc…

But back to twatter the problem is that you simply can't make any money: sponsored tweets? that didn't work, premium accounts? unless you improve the visibility but then the shitstains that use the service are going to complaint

Twatter can only work as a short of foundation that provides a free service, but the problem is that the cost of keeping twatter running its just too damn high, specially with shitheads like these >>315340 working there

Top that with a list of factors that made the service unusable (having an estimation of the total number of user blocked by the blockbot, who promoted it, and how many lists exist would probably hit the nail on the head).

The videos were distributed by ISIS for the purpose of terrorizing the Western world. On information and belief, Gawker was the only established media company to publish these videos in full and uncensored, showing the victims being beheaded. Gawker was criticized severely by the press and terrorism experts for furthering the terror campaign of ISIS, and showing a total lack of regard for the families of these victims.

>Gawker hacked a promotional campaign sponsored by Coca-Cola, in which the company utilized the hashtag “#MakeItHappy.” The campaign was originally designed to allow people to type statements into a decoder, and the decoder converted the statements into positive, happy statements. Gawker’s hack caused the campaign to publish highly offensive statements from Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf. Gawker was resoundingly criticized throughout the media for its actions.

>Gawker attempted to publicly “out” a private individual, a media executive at a rival publishing company, by publishing a story alleging that the media executive had attempted to solicit a male porn star and prostitute.

>Gawker’s actions in publishing these allegations regarding the media executive, including identifying the executive and the company for whom he worked by name, publishing the accusations of the gay porn star, and protecting the identity of the porn star, were severely criticized throughout the media industry. As a result, Gawker removed the story within about a day. A few days later, two senior executives at Gawker promptly resigned their positions, and many other Gawker employees followed suit. It was reported that multiple major advertisers pulled their advertising from Gawker, and Gawker’s revenues sank as a result. Following these events, several more senior executives, and other employees, resigned or were terminated.

"Twitter's stock fell as much as 14% to $12.82 after-hours before paring losses"

Feb 10, 2016, 4:46 p.m - Tomi Kilgore

That was swift but intense, now they're back around $14.54 (this big hole is likely the investors reacting to flat user growth rate).

Analysts are focusing on the user growth and looking at the new features (videos and timeline), hoping it would get users more involved.

None seem to examine the impact of Twitter's stances regarding free speech, the block bot, the shadow banning of tweets by IP… They don't seem concerned at all by their decision to put a bunch of radical ideologues in charge of monitoring interaction between users.

If I may, I'd propose a rebranding, maybe a slogan such as "Welcome to Twitter! The social media where you can freely express our opinion" would help?

>However it only takes ONE analyst working at a major news site blaming SJWs (and rightly so) for the fall of twitter for these cunts to get banned from all those sites en masse.

You know that's not how news are created right?

You need some claims based in minor evidence and report 'em as anonymous tips to minor blogs. Normally these are busy trying to bring any possible clicks so they need quick and easy news. Depending on the MSM that you want to reach you should study which blogs are used by them as sources, and also look for where the sources bring their info. All you need to do is follow the logic of modern news. They might appear free, but that's because you are not their client, only a part of the machine. Their client is the ads. To keep their client happy they need pageviews and clicks and for that they need hot news that bring enough drama and interest. This would be easy when the news is that a major social platform is dying.

Basically:

1. Bring news to minor blogs that don't fact check so much. Try to make it interesting and provoking so the news can be engineered easily.

2. Once you have a handful (2-3 posts) of links you can bring another tip to a bigger blog (gawker level). They will try to factcheck, but as another one already reported the situation, they might accept it more easily. After all, somebody else did the research for them, and the reporters need to cover the quota and bring more visitors, is not quality they need for more pageviews but quantity. If your story can generate emotions like anger (which would be expected as a lot of people will suffer from the lost of their twitter accounts) you might get more interest from the press and that means even more pageviews. The important part is that we don't need news that clarify 100% the situation. That stops the quantity of posts a reporter can make. Once you have people angry you already won. Nobody can bring the lost PR back.

3. Now you have yellow press blogs with some reputability reporting on something based on a minor anonymous tip. When you have enough links you can bring it to MSM. One that might agree with your position might be good. But still they can comment on this. If the shitstorm is big enough, even sources that don't believe it will be forced to report it. That's the part when you sit, relax and enjoy your beer while the fire rises.

Of course, option to avoid this kind of misuse would be for media to change it's corrupt standards and start making some real journalism, but that costs money.

SPOOKY, RIGHT?

d33175 No.316003

They will, but to prove them wrong you only need to find large platforms that do have these "harassment" problems and succeed. Which isn't hard. You have things like Youtube comments which are complete shit, yet Youtube is fine. Most people who have been on the internet outside of facebook know that this stuff is pretty normal. It's the internet.

It'd be better to disprove their premise of harassment destroying websites.

Here's the problem with their argument that gamergate killed Twitter. Gamergate is much weaker on Twitter than it's ever been. People don't use it as much. Not to mention the sharp decline in user growth started in Q2 2011, much earlier than Gamergate.

Here's the thing, the more they talk about harassment on twitter, the worse the site performs. If gamergate was directly killing Twitter, gamergate would be as strong as ever on Twitter. But it's not. The whole "safe space stop harassment" thing is the biggest it's ever been, and people are fleeing that.

Gamergate triggered the SJWs into ruining Twitter, but they're the ones that are ruining it. When they say that gamergate is ruining Twitter, they're also admitting they have no control over their own platform.

49f9e3 No.316036

>>315997

>How does one counter-meme?

If you want to use the media to counter-meme, you have to give them what they want: scandals. Being the first on putting a breaking story is a big advantage as the response from the opposition attacked by the news report will be seen as a defense (with classic titles like: "Guy denies kidnapping and raping a girl on 1992" which on itself implies that the thing really happened). Even when >>316003 uses good arguments, these arguments should start as soon as the story blaming GG for the fall of twitter breaks out. The attention span of the typical normalfag is terrible, and normally their judgement is set after "reading" the first news, that also means that a counter should start around 10 minutes from reading the other news, and also being more convincing. Is not going to happen. Trying to change their mind is useless, since critical thinking and reasoning is not a common ability for the average internet faggot.

If we want to take the "SJWs killed Twitter" approach we must start collecting evidence of that before the news break, and search for potential outlets to deliver the info. Besides Breitbart there might be other options so the pressure to report gets collective.

TL;DR: To counter-meme the best option is a preventive strike.

Does anyone have links on news of censorship by SJWs on twitter? We might be able to connect them with dates of stock prices falls.

Some want to believe that the lack of monthly active users growth is a non-issue, basically comparing Twitter to a magnified billboard (which is not inherently wrong: according to the BBC, about 85% of Twitter's revenues are coming from advertising, the rest is data mining)… except people are visiting Twitter because of the users, so I'd expect a delay between the MAU shrink and traffic decrease.

>What investors are forgetting to consider is that Twitter is now showing ads to the 500 million users who are logged off.

>Hence, growing the user base no longer matters, because Twitter will monetize a far larger user base regardless if they are MAUs (monthly active users) or not.

http://seekingalpha.com/article/3891236-analysts-wrong-twitter-stock-jack-dorsey

>Under pressure from government officials, Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) is more aggressively policing material it views as supporting terrorism. The world's largest social network is now quicker to remove users who back terror groups, investigate posts by their friends, and has a team that focuses on terrorist content. The unit is also helping promote counter speech, or posts that aim to discredit militant groups. Facebook is not the only one figuring out how to curb extremist propaganda. Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) last week suspended 125K accounts associated with ISIS.

Take that with a grain of salt, but they may go the way of Facebook and even further reduce their user base; While this article talks about "accounts associated with ISIS" specifically, other articles went for a more generic "accounts promoting terrorism". Considering >>315635 and knowing Josh's account is still active despite his respect and love for terrorist leaders and his apology of terrorist attacks, I guess Twitter will just restrict speech that is not "progressive" enough (and turn a blind eye to their friends transgressing the rules), until the government steps in and reduces the list of topics even further.

Indonesia has had a big anti-secular pushes in the last 25 years, and even folks I knew in the 90's who were secular, are either dead or no longer live in the country, having long since fled to Singapore, Australia or the Philippines. They had their quiet little purges against the anti-islamists there and lost.
