hey /gentoo/ which distro are you currently running?
i'm not proficient enough to run gentoo or fiddle the stuff with arch, so i went for manjaro because it's preconfigured arch
i had a friend telling me to start with it because i'm a newfag to linux and that arch and gentoo would just stomp my dreams of learning computers into shit
also, i'm starting to learn how to program so i think it's a good start. well, at least it's linux
which distro is your favorite?

Plain ol' Ubuntu. I don't really have a favorite.

Currently on Fedora Gnome using i3, but will go back to Arch once final assignments are done. Can't figure out which DE/WM to live on. I like Gnome Xfce and i3. Gnome is too overheating for my laptop and i3 is a pretty nice centralized system but Xfce is the sweet spot.

I'm using #! for two reasons:
1. it's a preconfigured lightweight, I'd use plain debian but I am too a n00b
2. arch has systemd, I too used manjaro for a while until I started reading what systemd is all about and, sorry, I like my config files in plaintext

Someone sell me on #! or installing Arch. I am definitely not married to Knoppix at all, and if there are superior alternatives out there for under a gig, I would love to get in the know about them.

The packages are stable and you have a large package list.
Even though the packages aren't bleeding edge they are still usable.

i advice against Arch if you're a newfag and if you're not an elitist cunt. not even years long arch users know how to properly configure their own systems, they just think they know. don't believe me? just ask any arch user how did they configure bfq scheduler, kek
i also advise against debian/crunchbang because i think they're boring, but that's a personal prefrence
go with a rolling distro for newfags like manjaro, LMDE, solydXK, or even new opensuse with tumbleweed

After using Debian almost exclusively for the last 3 years or so I recently installed mint on a fairly decent i7 wangblows 7 machine. I was very impressed, pleb tier distro's are the future I think, and mint isn't even the best pleb tier one available. Also tried Antergos, that was a real surprise to me, GNU/Linux shows it has the potential to be very good for beginners and experienced users.
