Deep Freeze archive thread. For those new to this here's the idea:

Find something nice?

Place it here

Simply place links, info-dumps, research projects, or other similar things here and the thread will be archived when full. Text copies of all information will also be saved. The idea is that this is where you place info dumps/writeups or really important seeming things, where as the dig threads are for general digging and dumping, so finished products/collections go here.

Welcome to GamerGateSquared

The gamergate archival and clerical research board.

Purpose
As discussed previously, the purpose of this board is to aggregate infodumps, provide a place for long term research projects, and to provide archival threads for all things relating to gamergate. This board can also be used for research into related topics such as common core, social justice, and more.

How it works
At any given time there are three primary "work" threads.
1. Digging general. Digging on anything related to social justice, gamergate, mainstream media ect goes here.
2. General research and discussion thread. Discuss any research projects you have and work on them here. Also includes discussion of long term ideas.
3. Deep freeze threads. Place archives, links, articles, ect that you want backed up in a safe way here as a "Fallback" to other methods such as archive today gamergate.me and others. These threads will be saved down to a text file and archived once full and a new one opened.

Other uses
Besides the primary threads, feel free to post your own threads for digs, long term research, or what have you. This board is strictly for long term research, digs, information aggregation, and historical research. It is not for discussion of current events or drama.
Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

Hey Board Owner, I'm just making this thread so we don't forget the discussion here:

https://8ch.net/pol/res/2219473.html#

We're brainstorming names for a new board that you and the /burgersandfries/ owner can collaborate on. The reason being that gg2 and bnf are both pretty bad names that won't stick.

So far the best suggestions (IMO) have been:

/gamersunion/

and

/vidyarevolt/

If you REALLY ARE more hands-off and freedom-oriented than Acid Man, and if you REALLY DO understand why "infighting" and dissent are important to a movement, then you could be our only hope. Don't fuck this up.

Rejoice! The true Leader of Gamergate has send word from his Headquarters that such activity is no longer bannable!

Banning people under strict rules, then relaxing the rules was all part of Our Glorious Leader's masterful plan to... uh, well, fuck up the post counts and out him and his mods as dramaqueen social engineers for some strange reason.

THAT DOESN'T MATTER

What matter's is that you're now free to post about boycotts again!

GG is a consumer revolt, our only power is economic power. To say we cannot discuss boycotts is to declaw us.

Our wiki even declares boycotts against several developers and companies, it's just the mods of the discussion places who seem to be brain-damaged individuals.

I disagree that our only power is economic though. We have strong social media presence as well which means we can hurt brands and even hold a small political weight, not through collective voting but by mass e-mailing campaigns and sending letters (see FTC, TPP etc).

Hello all

I have recently become aware of some problems regarding /gghq/ and the fact that people are becoming vastly dissatisfied with moderation there.

Given this, I am placing this board on standby status in case a meltdown/failure occurs

However

I would like to point out to people that another migration is going to be very frustrating to alot of folks. That being said, my advice is to watch and wait, not listen and believe. Lets just see how things play out for now guys.

That being said though should a serious meltdown occur I will convert this board back to active status and we will be ready to rock and roll.

As I said previously before gghq was founded, my only really big rule (outside of spam/shitpost removal) would be absolutely no identity politics/tone policing, that shit kills the board. But that being said

Ultimately, board rules would be chosen by a strawpoll vote

So it would be up to you guys.

Stay tuned my friends.

fec7a8 No.488

But muh downvote. It's called being an offtopic post.

No, it's not. The dictionary definition is effectively worthless. Eating a meal could be considered a movement by it. Nobody rational would describe breakfast as a movement. Additionally, dictionary definitions follow usage and seek to inform usage, but the relationship is not automatic. Therefore, we need some other objective criteria.

If we look at other movements, not a single one in history is even remotely like the response to the GG controversy. I've asked this every time some retard busts out "movement." What movement is it like? And then crickets.

Therefore, it's a shit objective descriptor at best. Words exist to describe patterns and there's no pattern for what GG is yet because it's the first of its kind. Even "consumer revolt" really fails to make sense of the shape. Here's a question for you to think about: Is there any real need to refer to the response to the controversy at all? If what we care about are the issues, why are we even talking about the response? Why is there any need to affix some label to it?

The answer for the opposition is that movements are what they think in and where you play the battleground of PR - it's where they're fish in water. The answer for us? It's just a giant waste of time for us and it comes with the baggage of how we look at our tactics, strategy, and how victory works. I don't give a shit how they think about us, but us thinking about it like this? That's a detriment.

As far as those examples, I don't really see anything wrong. In my opinion, the only one contributing any real criticism instead of spewing hyperbole like a retard is

>>>/gamergatehq/182373.

There are some legit good questions in there. There are also things like this that give the person away: "Defeatism [a.k.a. acknowledging reality]."

The reason why this is obvious is - well - just look:Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

3ad4ef No.489

>>488

>But muh downvote. It's called being an offtopic post.

It does absolutely nothing since the thread is stickied.

>The dictionary definition is effectively worthless.

If you wanna argue using definitions that only exist in your head I'd like to recommend a place filled with more like-minded individuals:

>>>/tumblr/

I'd rather use the universal meaning of words rather than arguing imagined definitions. If it pleases you I have no problem using 'revolt' instead for this conversation but I'd rather not get into a pointless argument about semantics.

As for the bans being justified or not: These were all in threads dedicated to discussing the more strict moderation. If they were criticizing anything else with the same arguments do you think they'd have been banned for dramafagging? Should users who think the new system is bullshit should be censored if the mods don't agree with their posts?

Truth is, moderation on /gghq/ has always been authoritarian. AcidMan has the bad habit of forcing his views on the rest of the revolt. Ralph was wordfiltered even though he wasn't part of the boycott list and over 75% of the users were against it. Acid constantly posts with his capcode on threads when not discussing board-related things. Pedobutts digging thread was deleted even though lots of interesting info was being dug out. And then there's the boycott thing: mods claim that there's a consensus but any thread discussing the issue, no matter how civil, gets deleted and the poster banned for shilling.

This decision to make the rules more strict was at no point discussed with the users. They just held a closet meeting and later informed us what they decided.

I'm not saying that Acidman hasn't done good things when running the board. Important OPs usually get stickied within 24 hours, mod logs are public and obvious spam and bait gets removed quickly. Problem is, sPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

fec7a8 No.492

>>489

>It does absolutely nothing

Then you should waste less time making an issue out of it.

>If you wanna argue using definitions that only exist in your head

I love it when my argument is strawmanned hard. It doesn't please me to use "revolt" either, although it's definitely more precise than movement. One of my points is: Why the fuck do you need so hard to categorize it? Seriously, I want to know. Why is it so important, especially in internal dialogue?

It's not a pointless argument, unless you think selection of tactics, strategy, and victory conditions being different somehow constitutes "pointless" differences. Even if you think that, it's only your opinion that it's unimportant and means nothing for general discourse. It does not mean that it is universally unimportant because you think it's not.

And ultimately, this "universal meaning" you speak of is completely nonsense. Usage informs dictionary definitions. This is a fact. Dictionaries sit around trying to keep up on what sticks and then put that into the definition. It follows usage and only in some cases. As we've established, the dictionary definition is effectively meaningless because it covers things that are clearly not movements. Usage of the word movement in a political context (and we could argue about whether or not this is a political context at all) means much more specific things. Based on this usage, it is inapplicable. It's not in my head. If you think it is, argue what movement this is similar to. Go ahead, I'll wait.

>Should users who think the new system is bullshit should be censored if the mods don't agree with their posts?

Users that think the new system is bullshit should provide constructive criticism about their opinions and why instead of bathing in the emotion of the moment. The majority of the posts you outlined did not do this and as such, I find it difficult to feel like there's a problem here.

Where were YOU on the day Order 66 was actioned?

05/21/2015:

1. KiA Admin Hatman, after discussing speaking to Brianna Wu on ways to "improve" KiA, anounces authoritarian new rules. Proudly states KiA is "Not a democracy", and "not worth saving".

2. AcidMan, a proud tripfag from Opchan (who only visited 4chan's /v/ as Gamergate was being forced to leave), decides "chan culture" has no place in /gamergatehq/ and bans it, permitting only "robust" debate. ReactionFace.jpg, GreenText, 1-line responses and all "chan" behaviour are grounds for banning.

All occured on one day.

Introduction

There has been continuous ongoing discussion about developer boycotts, some people love it, some people hate it.

It is now causing the GGHQ board to become kill because Acidman wants to silence discussion. He doesn't like that some people might boycott devs and are trying to discuss what criteria should be applied to this whenever a dev slips up.

Why This Discussion Cant be on GGHQ

Because Acidman and his Knights of the Rulecuck Table will remove any posts which are too 'on point' and risk them seeing a political defeat.

Facets for Discussion

- Boycotts, Yes, Maybe, No?

- Value of Boycotts to Consumer Value

- Value of Boycotts to Developer/Industry Value

- Criteria under which a developer should be collectively boycotted?

- Boycott by GG as a group or attempt to go beyond?

- Mechanisms for achieving maximum penetration.

43ec89 No.352

The way I see it, creating a really good awareness campaign similar to www.eastarwars.com from that Russian anon, combining it with people speaking up against companies during the paid mods situation along with something similar to O:DN which creates the threat of a boycott would be a lot more effective than having a boycott on its own.

It lets you hit the company from the PR front and makes them worry about losing customers and losing money the same way advertisers were worried about advertising their stuff on Gawker due to losing potential customers along with having a PR nightmare after Gawker got shown what it really is on Twitter.

5cbd2c No.397

>>329

>Boycotts?

Yes for the love of god

>Value of boycotts

A consumer's only power in this world is that of his wallet, whether or not he spends his money or not. A boycott is merely the consumer exercising this power to dictate the path of the industry.

With a sizable enough boycott, you can force corporations to stop shitty business practices, such as the horrible relationship between publishers and journalists leading to gamers being shit on (Mountain Dewrito, ME3, DmC)

If we gather enough support, we can get everything we ever wanted. Support SJW shit? No money for you. Day 1 DLC, bullshit preorders? No money for you. Any other assorted jewish shit? No money!

It's quick, it's efficient. All it requires is a little self control. The XBoner and Steam Paid Mods shit were killed out of the mere fear of a boycott, we just need to stir up that sort of outrage.

Several months ago when Jennie Bharaj was raising funds for her site Based Gamer, there was a huge FUD campaign within GG telling people not to donate and condemning her for seeking money for a private enterprise. The community essentially kicked her out of GG after she did a great job defending us in a TV interview. Then Drybones launched startbutton.net shortly afterward.

With the revelation that Drybones has been part of Zoe Quinn's friends' network for months, these past events might be worth revisiting and digging into. We may have had our own TFYC situation within GG.

On a potentially related note, does anyone remember who exactly was being such an asshole to Internet Aristocrat that he quit?

DeepFreeze.it planning

Place ads, art, and anything you guys want to discuss regarding deepfreeze tan and deepfreeze.it here.

From the previous thread

The current main focus is syndicated ads to be targeted at gaming related sites or Youtube, but we might do other sites too. The actual campaign is likely to go though the /v/ board owner Mark who is trustworthy and has an Adsense account. Bonegolem has asked to be given time to prepare before it goes live but otherwise seems to be mainly leaving it up to us.

Designs are needed and advice is appreciated. Let's do this!

For more information from the previous topic, including some general advice. Twitter and youtube seemed to be discussed the most with Reddit and Facebook behind it. 9gag had some discussion too and the anon giving advice made a point to bring up bingads as another alternate, cheaper source over google's adsense. Seems something worth exploring as cheaper is good and Microsoft does want to play the game seriously so there's opportunity there.
