Rules:

1. No threads about personal use of proprietary OSes as your primary OS. Threads about running proprietary OSes in a VM, emulation, or dual-boot and about running proprietary software on a liberated OS (or liberated software on any OS) are allowed. Threads discussing moving away from proprietary software and OSes are allowed.

2. No GPU wars, no console wars, no obnoxious consumerist shitflinging. All corporations are trying to fuck you over. Rational discussion of consumer hardware as relates to use with liberated software is allowed. Language wars, license wars, distro wars, and other types of heated discussion are allowed.

3. No threads actively promoting proprietary licenses or OSes.

4. /pol/ is allowed to post on good behavior. No shitting the place up with accusations of Judaism, ranting about gas chambers, or similar shit.

5. No spamming, spoiler NSFW images, and don't post images (including cartoons) that could get your fellow hackers arrested.

Board Purpose:

GNUSSR is intended to facilitate broad-ranging discussion of free software in all its forms, and to promote political struggle against exploitative, privately-owned software and computer services. GNUSSR is based on the stance that Free Software is essentially a theory of anti-capitalist, anti-corporatist computing. Therefore, GNUSSR is also meant to facilitate discussion of computing as it relates to society as a whole, including topics such as cyberpunk, AI, and cybernetics.

Heyo,

I want to know if anyone is interested in starting a campaign to make affordable libre-laptops.

Currently the only way to acquire a box without a backdoor is to spend 600+ more on a librebooted thinkpad, or use an ARM device with no breakout hardware.

Let's actually make a kickstarter, go to Hong Kong, India or wherever, get a manufacturer to make this. It won't make INSANE GAINS MARKET $$$HARE but it will be enough to support us.

Also please post forseeable obstacles and expenses, plans and such. Let's really make this happen. If you think can help, or want to be a founder in this please email, and I'll make a crypto wallet available. This kind of thing is WAY passed due, and truly it's the only thing that is going to save us from soylent zuckerfuture nightmareworld so please take it seriously.

Thank you and SHIVA bless you.

 No.495

I'd be interested, but getting anons to put $ in it will be tough.

Advanced users of GNU/Linux (and I mean advanced), remember to try Source Mage GNU/Linux. True source-based distribution, and (in contrast with Gentoo and Arch) is:

Free from obfuscated and pre-configured code.

Fully committed to GPL, uses only free software (as in freedom) in their main package.

With even the documentation licensed as FDL.

Without 3rd party patches, sensible defaults or masked packages.

Doesn't need obfuscated python libraries, only bash.

No systemd (they've implemented their own init scripts system http://sourcemage.org/Init).

Uses clean dependencies as they came from upstream developers, which by the same provides instant updates.

Can heal broken installs.

Can also use flags.

Do you like Arch Linux's AUR? Do you like Gentoo's portage (or ports-like) package manager? With SMGL's "sorcery" you get all that. Making new spells (package build files) not found in the grimoire (repository of spells) is easy http://sourcemage.org/Spell/Book

Bash hackers welcome! Come and join http://sourcemage.org/

Installing SMGL is easy, here's the simplified process:

>boot a live Ubuntu (or whatever) USB drive

>go to SMGL website and download compressed archive of the base system

>partition and mount partition(s)

>extract the archive onto the new partition(s)

>chroot, set root passwd, hostname, configure network and locale, write fstab, install grub/lilo

>reboot

>compile a kernel (preferably the newest stable one from kernel.org)

>update sorcery, grimoires and the build toolchain

I really considered this, and also Void, but since I'm going to be travelling I think I'm going to have to do Debian with OpenRC init system for my thinkpad for now, and compile Void, FreeBSD and others in VMs until I really get the hang of it / settle down, then I'll try this.

>How do I build a low-budget desktop gaming pc

http://www.logicalincrements.com/

Read up on parts before ordering. Make sure you have a compatible CPU socket and an appropriate PSU. Save yourself a headache by getting an SSD, a case with cable management, and a modular PSU.

>without using proprietary software like Windows?

PCI passthrough (difficult), Wine (YMMV), native Linux games (has the essential Valve games and similar), or dual boot.

You don't. Windows is the best option for gaming (unless you like retro stuff, in which case disregard this post). Instead, you should stop wasting your time on video games, buy a used surplus desktop, and install Gentoo. This is how you become enlightened, not by playing games.

Steam on Linux supports a lot of Windows games now. Just build a regular computer and pick a Linux distro that you want to use.

Some terminology used in cyberpunk circles. These might come in handy IRL as code words, if you'll simply write them down somewhere and incorporate them into your regular vocabulary. For instance; replacing the word "CEO" with "Corpse" or calling a retard you know and hate a "bakebrain". Who knows, you might find it useful in a life-or-death sitch if you use code instead of letting people know what you're actually saying.

I use a chromebook as my school computer because of the cost and portability. I use a chroot environment to run Ubuntu and Chrome OS at the same time, and I am wondering if it is possible to run other distros on it without building my own project to do so. Does anyone

Check your chromebook model on the internet. You can get real linux running on most chromebooks ( not in chroot).

Check GalliumOS

 No.526

after getting into developer mode enable usb boot via google's built in utility (forgot the name). Grab prebuilt image from distro of your choice and boot it off(or compile kernel yourself and configure one. google provides individual scripts for each of products so you don't have to write your own dtb or anything).

If your chromebook is based on arm board you will have hard time configuring 3d hw acceleration working. I heard it's possible (using blob provided by arm) but I personally never got it working on my gentoo.

 No.566

>>462

check gallium os website, they have a fairly good support for a lot of chromebooks. If it's an ARM chromebook, check archlinuxarm, they have good wiki for arm chromebook.

 No.534

>>523

Who said anything about labor vouchers?

 No.543

>>523

>>529

No offense, but I don't think you guys know how payments in labor time work.

You get paid a 1 hour token for 1 hour of work.

1 hour token is worth (in terms of consumer goods you may acquire) the average social output of 1 hour of work: you may acquire a good that took 1 person an hour to make with your 1 hour token.

So if a good took 1 hour to make but, thanks to automation, now takes only 30 minutes, you may acquire twice as much of that good while working the exact same hours.

The value of labor tokens, and therefore the power of consumption available to all individuals, will actually increase as production becomes more efficient. In time, you could work substantially less while maintaining the same or even a higher standard of living.

 No.552

People are obsessed with the self-flagellation work mentality because it's all they know. Let's automate everything and get rid of work entirely.

 No.559

>>543

Brainlet here.

If one dude and another dude work for an hour BUT one works harder but creates a worse product and another works less hard and creates a better product do they get same labour vouchers?
