On August 26, 2015, news reporter Alison Parker and photojournalist Adam Ward, employees of CBS affiliate WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia, United States, were shot to death while conducting a live television interview near Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta. The news team was interviewing Vicki Gardner, executive director of the local chamber of commerce, when all three were attacked by a gunman. Parker, age 24, and Ward, age 27, died at the scene while Gardner survived. Video of the incident showed Parker conducting the interview, before at least eight gunshots were heard, followed by screams. Ward's camera fell to the ground, briefly capturing the image of Flanagan holding a Glock 19 9mm pistol.

This picture was taken by serial killer Robert Ben Rhoades. 14-year-old Regina Kay Walters was one of the numerous women held in an 18-wheeler equipped with a torture chamber in the back. The photo was taken in an abandoned Illinois barn, where Rhoades killed Walters, after cutting off her hair and making her wear a black dress and heels.

In this Sept. 21, 2014 photo, taken in New Jersey's Apshawa Preserve by hiker Darsh Patel, a 300-lb bear approaches. The photos show the bear behind a fallen tree in the woods. Investigators say the camera phone was found with puncture marks from the bear near Patel's mauled body.

The two unidentified persons seen in this Polaroid, found in a Port St. Joe, FL parking lot on June 1989. The female is suspected to be Tara Calico.

On Tuesday, September 20, 1988, Calico left her home at about 9:30 in the morning to go on her customary bike ride. She told her mother, Patty Doel, to come and get her if she was not home by noon. Doel went searching for her daughter along her usual bike route but could not find her; she then contacted the police. Pieces of Calico's Sony Walkman and a cassette tape were discovered along the route. The bicycle was never found.

The Lonely Hearts Killer, Harvey Glatman started when he moved to Los Angeles, where he posed as a professional photographer to lure girls into his hotel room with the promise of easy money and work. There, he tied them up, photographed them, eventually killed and dumped their bodies in the desert.

March 22, 1978, Karl Wallenda, 73, died when he fell while walking between the two ten-storey towers of the Condado Plaza Hotel, San Juan, Puerto Rico. He died a second after this photo was taken.

Omayra Sánchez was a 13-year-old girl who lived in Armero when a volcano, the Nevado del Ruíz, erupted. When the lahar destroyed her house, her father and aunt died inside. She was able to survive the lahar, but when rescue teams tried to help her, they realized the task was impossible without breaking her legs in the process. Rescue workers placed a tire around her to prevent her from drowning. Divers discovered that Sánchez's legs were caught under a door made of bricks, with her aunt's body under her feet.

Lacking the surgical conditions to save her from the effects of an amputation, the doctors agreed that it would be more humane to let her die slowly. She suffered for nearly three nights (roughly 60 hours) before she died at 10:05 A.M. on November 16 from exposure, most likely from gangrene or hypothermia.

Robert Andrew “Bob” Berdella was an American serial killer from Kansas City, Missouri. He raped, tortured and killed at least six men. Berdella was conscious of his homosexuality, in 1984 he started dating Jerry Howell, a good-looking 19-year-old male prostitute. On July 5th, 1984, Berdella invited Howell to his house, where he drugged him with sedatives for animals and immobilized by binding him to a bed. In the following hours he repeatedly rapes his victim, writes carefully about the process into his diary and takes several pictures to relive his fantasy later. This was the beginning of torture and murder spree.

Next year, 18-year-old Robert Sheldon, who was a friend of Berdella’s, came to stay with him for a few days and found himself drugged and held captive in the basement just like Howell before him. He was killed after 3 days of torture by suffocation.

21-year-old Todd Stoops was kidnaped because Berdella felt sexually frustrated with him. The torture he endured prior to his death included electric shocks via a spatula placed across the eyelid in an unsuccessful attempt to blind him. Stoops died in a combination of blood loss and infection.

Berdella kidnapped Larry Pearson, who was working as a male prostitute, and forced him to be his sex slave. Because Pearson was more cooperative than Berdella's other victims, he lived longer. Their "relationship" lasted for six weeks. However, when Pearson made a failed escape attempt Berdella brutally murdered him.

Reynaldo Dagsa, a politician in the Philippines, took a picture of his family right before his assassination on New Years Day 2011. The picture was taken just moments before his assassin, Michael Gonzales, fired twice, killing Dagsa in front of his family.

The May 8, 1942 edition of the New York Times reported that 35-year-old Mary Miller had checked into the Genesee Hotel as “M. Miller, Chicago.” She “entered a women’s restroom, locked the door from the inside, and crept out onto the ledge." Two days later, the Times confirmed that the suicide was indeed Mary Miller.

Robert Landsburg was an avid photographer at the time of his death. He was especially enamored with Washington state’s Mount St. Helens. On May 18, 1980. Landsburg just happen to be right near the base of Mount St. Helens, when the mountain erupted causing the single biggest volcanic event in the United States since 1915. Because of his proximity to the eruption Landsburg did not survive, but he managed to capture this photograph of the beginning of the eruption just before his death.

This is a photo Karen Sprinker, taken in Jerry Brudos' garage. Sprinker was 19 years old when she was murdered by the serial killer. Brudos abducted the college student from a department store parking lot. Back at his house Brudos forced Sprinker to model women's underwear and pose for photos. Not long after, Brudos killed her by hanging her from a hook in the ceiling. According to police, after Sprinker was dead Brudos had sex with her body and cut off her breasts.
