What is some /grim/ anime/manga? Does such a thing exist? I haven't seen it yet, but Jin-Roh seems pretty /grim/ with its focus on military totalitarianism.

Also Beserk of course.

I read the drifting classroom, 11 volumes of stephen king type spooky stuff mixed with lord of the flies

Dragon's Head

The first 150 or so chapters of Berserk are pretty grim

None of you guys watched Texhnolyze or Serial Experiments Lain?

I also recommend Ergo Proxy.

Those are all Anime, because I don't read Manga.

Maybe Death Billiards, but it is also a bit humorous about death.

In the movie Grave of the Fireflies nothing ends well.

The movie Kite maybe.

All three Mardock Scramble movies.

Seeing how grim /grim/ is, I mostly recommend Texhnolyze, Serial Experiments Lain and Ergo Proxy in that order of grimness.

Just started watching Lain. So far it's breddy /grim/, as most cyberpunk things are. But holy fucking shit, Grave of the Fireflies should actually be considered essential /grim/-core for it's war themes and also just being one of the most unflinchingly serious and depressing animes I've ever seen.

Also, there's nothing wrong with being humorous about death. One must either laugh or cry when faced with the absurdity of human existence, amirite?
