When people think they know someone, when we are actually all so complex that barely anyone deeply understands their own doing.
This can manifest in many ways, e.g. a colleague at work making fun about your choice of sunglasses, when actually you've got much more important stuff in your head right now.
Now, in turn one might think the guy laughing about your clothing is an awful person, but is it really their fault, especially if their environment indoctrinated them to believe these things are important?
Maybe the guy is trying to help you "wake up" and to do something good to you; to help you and doesn't know how else to do it. His intention was to show you how appearance enhances/ruins actual shallow people's picture of you.
Idk this example maybe didn't work out too well, but maybe someone here catches my drift. A lot of people interpret messages before the time is ripe. Maybe their minds are just designed like that because their parents never talked to them in complex structures when they were young, but, being annoyed, kept them silent with one-liners all the time, instead of allowing more developed thought patterns to build up.
Which leads us to a second thing that's rage-inducing: Bad parenting.
My own mind is pretty clouded at the moment, so I'm sorry for these clouded attempts for explanations.
Maybe at least someone can laugh about it.
