to accept grimness, which is so often reviled by normalfolk, is the mark of a truly nonjudgmental, ultimately friendly individual

Agreed. Being /grim/ doesn't mean being bad-mannered, a horrible individual or anything of that sort. One part negativity, one part being sombre and one part gloom.

One feeling, or behavioral trait does not negate the other. A gloomy person may very well love and respect his friends. Grim means lack of bias, and an overall clarity.

Friendship is magic but death is inevitable. I intend to be friends with whatever personification of death I may encounter.

grim is more friendly than "it'll get better!"-ism

I'm so grim precisely because of my understanding of how all people suffer. I love every creature because they've felt pain close enough to my own. Pessimism is the most friendly philosophy.
