Not that a board split is necessary at this time, but this also seems like a great place to discuss older systems and OSR that usually get drowned out by the extreme 3.0+/Warhammer focus. Back on halfchan, I felt like it was more that the board was too fast to support it rather than a general lack of interest. **What I mean to say is that everyone was a bunch of casuals who only play one game religiously*

So you're hoping that there's a more general talk about traditional games instead of a bunch of 40k and 3.x circle jerking?

That would be pretty nice.

I get that everyone has their own tastes and there's nothing wrong with that, but 40k and 3.5/PF kinda have taken out a huge chunk of their respective industries and basically gotten those players (probably through the money and time investments they make) to be unwilling to try any other games. Not all of them, but a lot of them.

Vaguely related note, I miss the older art styles in AD&D and shit. Maybe they weren't as good from a technical standpoint but they were practically dripping with character.

It's not just that it's the same three games, but also that they (mostly D&D) are always used for a style of play that they just don't fit. You rarely hear of anyone doing a dungeon crawl or hexploration with item management and shit, even in AD&D, which is the only place the rules really shine.

I like the old art better too. Something is flat and lifeless with a lot of digital art, even if it's more technical skill put into it.

I can only muster so many fucks before going on StoryGames seems like a good idea.

I imagine it's the same thing as with vidya. A lot of older vidya with shittier graphics had to convey stuff with their art style rather than with the models and textures so much.

Similarly I imagine when you're using a more basic printer, as they would have been back then, and .pdfs were not even a thing, you probably couldn't count on the pictures' quality, and it was more important and acceptable to be a bit more exaggerated and intense.

Agreed 100%. I was beginning to think I was the only one. It had jaded me to the point where I hardly play traditional games anymore at all.
