Not sure if this belongs here. But I wanna show this huge zucchini I grew. What do you think /grow/ ?

b6468f No.82

Hot daniel! I love it, but I have some questions.

How firm is she? What cultivar is she?
Do you produce her hugeculture or is she a freak? Did you use a hotbed or electric blanket?

Love the colour, reminds me of a dragon dildo.

I just went away for three days and that fucking happened. I just left it alone. I have grown some more like it + a yellow squash.
I have one theory why you don't see them like this.
> be me
> go to market on bike cause poorfag
> wanna make zucchini muffins
> farmer says they have one zucchini
> fucking 10 pounder
> try to carry the thing home on bike
> fall over due to imbalance
> get run over
> guy gets out
> turns out he wanted the zucchini
> mfw I got run over for a vegetable
>fucking gamestop

Pic of more veggies

Your zucc crossed with a summer squash. You have a mutant.

That can also happen with cucumbers. They taste awful, but they're very decorative.

36a279 No.154

OP here, I ended up cooking the Ogre Dildo and turning it into muffins. Tasted alright, 6/10 would make again if I had more cheese. Also, thanks Anon for the advice about the Summer squash. In a week or two I should have some pumpkins to show off. Will post then.

Zucchinis always grow that big if you let them fully ripen.

Is this a good place to have a discussion on the science of herbal medicine and other forms of plant-based biochemistry?

I have always been a fan of using herbs for various forms of low-dosage medication, but I'm horribly inexperienced. Currently my best herb mix for back pain involves tarragon, chamomile, and licorice root.

As a simple tisane for now, I've found that it provides a very proper recovery for lower back spasms and other muscular aches I have after an intense workout. I think the coolest part is that tarragon, aside from having a unique flavor, contains Benzodiazepines which are used to make drugs such as Diazepam (or Valium). I'm still doing a little more research on chamomile's active chemicals, but I do know that glycyrrhizic acid found in licorice root has positive effect on the liver. I usually add this as a "just in case" as plenty of medicinal chemicals put stress on the liver.

I'm also interested in learning all the dangerous shit people keep in their houses, like sago palm and holly berry.

So what about the rest of y'all?

Have you taken the brown pill yet, mateys?

it's a tough pill to swallow! The brown pill was founded in 1999 by Sir Reginald Brownpill, who presents and narrates the attached video.

Forget red and blue pills, brown pills are the way of the future.

Have you thought about producing your own barley and hops?

You could also keep bees. The European dark bee should be hardy in your climate.
Another option could be sugar beet.

Do you know what you want to produce on your land? Self sufficiency requires all the main crop groups; food, fuel, fibre and fun. And then each of those breaks down further. The long and short of it is that self sufficiency is a full time job.
If you were just thinking of food then you may also want to think about rape for oil, it is very cold hardy and I think you could plant a winter cultivar where you are.

Let me know what you are looking to grow and I would be happy to help you work out a rotation.

I'm glad that you are all eager to help, thank you.

As of right now, my family and I are planning to grow a garden. We already have a very basic layout and we plan to grow: corn, onions, potatoes, raspberries, strawberries, green beans (I miss growing those the most), and other veggies and fruits. Rabbit, squirrel, and chicken are some forms of meat we are going with. As for the European dark bee, I would LOVE to have our own honey, but we're focused on the garden right now.

>Have you thought about producing your own barley and hops?

Funny you should mention that, as some friends and I do have a plan to make our own brewery. I want to make a good ale and beer, but I've thought about stopping with hops because of the beer-estrogen link.
http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/arh22-3/220.pdf

I'm not one to drink excessively or get plastered; beer is good in moderate amounts and maybe I can make honey mead if I go with the bees route.

The strawberries and raspberries are perennials so they will need a fixed position, probably in partial shade depending on how hot your summers get.

As for the others it's very simple. Use a six year rotation of 2-2-2 as a minimum. You may want to go longer than that but no more than 5. That's Root Veg - Top Veg and cereals - Legumes. Remember to keep a compost heap also. Add to the soil when you take something away. That's harvest and even weeding.
Some veg you can over winter which will bring a higher yield the following year. For the other plots it's important to use a cover crop of winter legumes. They will keep the weeds down and add nitrogen to the soil. The nitrogen is only released as the roots breaks down. Don't dig the roots up else the nitrogen is released into the atmosphere. Just cut down the (probably unfinished) crop and leave the roots to rot in the ground and put the seed in.

With regards to the hops. I really wouldn't worry about growing tits. If you are keen on skipping hops you will need another herb to act as a preservative.

Sage and wormwood I know to work well. Although careful not to kill yourself with the wormwood.

Hi /grow/. I recently acquired a jiffy 10-day self-watering greenhouse. In it I have planted both sunflowers and bluebonnets. It has been five days since sowing and only one has sprouted so far. Is this normal or should I be concerned? Will the others eventually sprout? Pic related. Jiffy greenhouse.

Ah dude, what temperature does that run at? Not all seeds germinate at the same temperature. You can pick up an adjustable vivarium heat mat for cheap. If you need to adjust the temp on that thing you need to buy the thermostat add on. Use the thermometer to check the actual temp when it's running. If it's too hot you can use a magazine or something between the mat and the germinator.

>>177
The strip should work fine as long as it's INSIDE the germination chamber. The digital one tests water, not the air, so don't get the digital one.
A simple cheap liquid thermometer would do fine also.

So it out puts somewhere between 10 and 20 degrees.
At least it will push the temp to where it needs to be for sunflowers whilst in your room.

Herbal remedies thread? Cheaper than meds and better for you.

I'll start with Willow.
Cut up young stems into cup, add boiling water, put on lid and wait to cool.
It contains salicylic acid, which is not only a rooting hormone but the basis of aspirin. The tea can be used to root cuttings or relieve pain.
Enjoy!

Does raising kids count as growing organisms for fun and profit?

What do y'all know about dirt science? I've been toying with the idea of making a high-tech compost reactor to make high-tech dirt. (I'm an engineer, so I'm interested in shit like this).

What's the best way to maintain a wildflower garden?

We are just like you, can't we all live in harmony? Why can't /leftypol/ stop being so bigoted and see that become a multi-topic board is the best for all.

Yes, it's called slavery and is an age old tradition still practised in countries today.

Suitable cultivars. Leave it alone

With regard to a compost reactor, I assume you mean a waste digester? Degrade waste and produce burnable gas?

Alright y'all; I've started a greenhouse at school and in the space of a couple weeks it's gone from the shed where the janitors kept their spare crap to this.

We're definitely going to grow carrots but I'd like advice on soil, what else to grow, where to get seeds, etc….

I intend to keep a barrel of water inside the greenhouse in order to feed the plants as a friend of mine has advised me that it will help to dissipate any chlorine or chemicals within the water.

As this board moves at an extremely slow pace I'll probably keep y'all updated weekly about the progress, even if this is just an empty board and I'm talking to myself.

The water butt is good advice. As for soil, with carrots it's best to aim for a sandy loam, allows for faster growth. Organic soil mix depending on whether you are adding nutes. Keep it moist. You can either sow the seed close together or grow in tubes. Either way forces the carrot down.
If you are aiming for no fuss, grow radishes, they are fucking easy. Also oriental salads.
Depending on your grow season it difficult to suggest stuff. My two personal favs are chillis (limon & ring of fire - both short dtm) and the yin yang bean. That fucking bean is so cool.

Still trying to get soil; might try afterschool tomorrow.

I highly recommend either an organic or high peat compost. Mix in some sharp sand where necessary. Avoid anything that says it's peat free or has a %peat lower than 70.
Basically some shit is just wood chips and an awful growing medium, the decaying wood sucks away all the nitrogen.
