Hi /grow/. I recently acquired a jiffy 10-day self-watering greenhouse. In it I have planted both sunflowers and bluebonnets. It has been five days since sowing and only one has sprouted so far. Is this normal or should I be concerned? Will the others eventually sprout? Pic related. Jiffy greenhouse.

Does it have adjustable temp?
What temp are you keeping it at?
Are you using a thermometer in there to make sure it is being kept at the right temp?
How wet are the plugs?

Five days really isn't that long. Two weeks is the cut off really. After a week I like to open up one of the plugs and see what is going on. If they have been moist and at the right temp for two weeks then it's most likely the seed that is at fault. Did you buy quality seed or some ebay shit?

A little advice, before you pot on the plug remove the layer of film around the growing medium. Roots really struggle to penetrate it and it can leave plants severely stunted.

Thanks for your help. In all honesty it's simply being kept in my room without any temperature aid my room is currently around 66°F (~19°C). I will post pictures as well.

Seeds were burpee brand. Haven't really had a problem with them before. What temperature should it be inside?

Pic related, the plug you see is a sunflower. Pellets feel quite cold. It's currently 70°F outside would it be a good idea to put it out there in the sun so the greenhouse can great up?

Really sorry, been having major issues getting in here.

That plant is stretched out to shit! What light source are you using? If it's LED move it closer for god sake. Failing that at least move that plant to a window.

How deep did you plant the seeds? You really don't want to go more than 2cm. If they are deeper, don't dig them up, they will come up but will take longer.

Your room temp should be fine, although a little low. Try moving them nearer a heat source. You really should buy a cheap thermometer to keep in there with them.

Moving them outside depends on your night time temps. You are probably better off germinating indoors anyway.

Warm them up and when they have germinated move them into a sunny spot.

And get that damn plant some light! Hopefully the others will all come at roughly the same time, assuming you put the seeds in at roughly the same depth. Apart from the stretched plant you don't appear to have done anything wrong.

Good luck Anon.

Thanks a lot. I'm currently just using my nothing more than my room's light. It's a really big room so the light is distanced from the greenhouse. Would it be alright if I plug in a desk lamp over it?

That sounds perfect.

Another great option is a vivarium adjustable heat mat. If you do this be sure to get the thermometer also.

Also, would a liquid crystal thermometer do the job?

Ah dude, what temperature does that run at? Not all seeds germinate at the same temperature. You can pick up an adjustable vivarium heat mat for cheap. If you need to adjust the temp on that thing you need to buy the thermostat add on. Use the thermometer to check the actual temp when it's running. If it's too hot you can use a magazine or something between the mat and the germinator.

The strip should work fine as long as it's INSIDE the germination chamber. The digital one tests water, not the air, so don't get the digital one.
A simple cheap liquid thermometer would do fine also.

According to amazon:

>Warms root area 10 to 20 degrees over ambient temperature

So it out puts somewhere between 10 and 20 degrees.
At least it will push the temp to where it needs to be for sunflowers whilst in your room.
