Atleast Neutrality is a thing that actually exists and can be justified in the era. What the fuck is world tension? Does this mean if a player-controlled Japan can make the entire fucking world implode by virtue of annexing its economic sphere? It's retarded and doesn't make any sense.
Let's see how they plan it will work:
>World Tension works as a limiter on certain actions, depending on your country’s setup and ideology. So a nation like USA, which has special internal country circumstances modeled as well to make entry into a world war harder requires something like 100% tension to join a faction. To compare a non-aligned nations like Poland need only a 40% world tension to be able to join factions. Like the USA there are also other nations who have embraced a policy of neutrality or isolationism, like Sweden or Switzerland, these nations generally need to work through chains of National Focuses to remove these limitations.
>For fascist expansionist powers World Tension is your enemy. You'll want to make sure you time your actions so that it doesn’t bring tension over limits where democracies are free to move in and stop you and let the tension decay, of course being a global value there may be other forces at work in the world so being able to do a diplomatic limbo dance might be harder than it sounds and you might find that stuff heats up a lot faster than you are prepared for. World Tension is also something that can be bypassed through special treaties and such set up through National Focuses, but these are generally country specific solutions and we will look at those in more detail when we cover each nation’s Focus choices.
Note how this means that Brazil annexing something will mean the USA will be closer to joining the 'world war' and.. other people would join factions sooner. This is fucking retarded.
sorry if it seems I'm directing this at you, just get worked up complaining about this desecration of a WW2 wargame

World tension sounds like something that would make more sense in a Cold War game, a mechanic similar to Twilight Struggle's DEFCON track that encourages brinksmanship with mostly-beneficial effects as you go closer to war (in Twilight Struggle, DEFCON keeps Europe and Asia stable, the Middle East a little less stable, and makes battlegrounds in general strongpoints), but a risk as both superpowers push the limit and risk all-out devastation.
Tension in regions (ex. one for each continent) might make sense, with a small amount of tension bleeding into areas with strong ties, like the war in Europe making the USA a bit nervous. But a straight-up "world tension" thing doesn't make much sense when, for the most part, the whole world didn't blow up at once.

Honestly, sounds like a waste of resources.
I mean, having the total war or mount and blade style combat as an option is fine, but having both is stupid.
It would be better for the devs to focus on one style or the other to make it really good than to have them split between the two options.
They'd have to balance for each option too. I mean, the top view would give you access to much more information than the FPP option.
Really, for something like that the best option may be more of a you control some guy while fighting, but to issue commands you zoom out to an overworld map. Essentially merging the two, which means they don't have to worry about two completely different styles of gameplay.
Pretty sure this is incorporated into some games, though I don't believe any grand strategies.

They said they wanted a world war, so Poland cucked them by complying.
It goes to show that they may have to tweak the historical route a little, so you can ensure that Poland doesn't back down. But I think it's actually a positive show, since Johan didn't actively back up Poland after the annexation of the Czechs. Poland only ever went to war with Germany because they were sure they'd have back-up from the Allies, and that Germany didn't have a full military structure yet. So if you play ahistorically, and Britain and France don't fuck with you, you should be able to "win" without starting an all-out world war.
So far I'm positively surprised by their decision / policy system. And the international tension thing seems like a good mechanic too, though it's probably completely fucked, and will need a DLC or a mod to work correctly.
I'm still apprehensive about the unit and combat mechanics, but they haven't shown all that much of that yet. If the theater management is easier than HoI3 without watering down strategic decisions, then I'll embrace this game as a much needed sequel. Based solely on how my HoI3 campaigns got derailed by my inability to consistently spend 20 minutes on managing my Eastern Frontline, just to progress a week, and then reassign orders based on which battles went well and which stalled.

Fuck you.. This game is already railroaded to the max, we need more freedom to have different outcomes every time

Comepared to what?
Honestly, the fact that you can demand Danzig from Poland and actually get it peacefully, is more than I've ever seen in HoI3, where Germany is always forced to fight when Danzig or War happens. There is a threshold for how much threat Germany is allowed to have, before the Allies preemptively strike. And the USSR always attacks Germany if London falls.
From my understanding HoI4 will have a lot more space for deviating from the historical line, compared to HoI3.
And I just want a way to ensure the historical outcome of foreign policy, so you CAN go the historical route every time, if you so please.
Also, refrain from insulting other, you spastic fine African-American gentleman fuckboy, it doesn't help your argument, nor the interest of others in participating in discussion on this dead board.

I'm not asking a Sunset invasion type of game. But at least something that will make interesting playing it again because it make weird scenarios
Example:
ck2 can let most of Europe grow big with the right situation or let Norse conquer the shit out of anyone if there is too much internal Christian wars
eu4 if France win the 100y war get 100 points of AE or if using a Japanese daimyo you cant conquer more than 50% of Japanese otherwise coalition pop out as mushrooms after a rain
What would you prefer to play you god damn faggot fine African-American gentleman?

Same reason Game Grumps got to play Civ 5 with the Brave New World expansion even though they can't make it through Wind Waker without looking at a guide every two seconds; bitching and moaning all the way: They can't afford Pewdie Pie.
