 No.2287

Hey guys. Time for a Distant Worlds thread.

I've just picked up the game a couple of days ago and, after getting a bit more used to it, really enjoy the dynamic. Finally gives me something a bit more complex than EU4 but still interesting enough that I'll put time into it.

Question though: Anyone here have trouble making money early on in the game? I decided to be a masochist and play as a standard empire in the age of shadow and am finding it hard to really get my empire to start taking off economically. Anyone got any suggestions?

TL;DR:
Distant Worlds thread. How to make money. show ur maps fagets

Might ruin your fun once you learn about this exploit so be warned.

Start empire in Shadow Age.

Be democracy.

Buy a small port and inmediatly drop taxes to 0. Don't worry if you drop into negatives as it has absolutely no consequences other than not being able to buy stuff.

Let population grow to at least 6k then jew the taxes up to 0 happiness. If you need money before you reach that point then tax until you can afford what you need then drop again.

Swim in shekels as you conquer the galaxy.

For maximum jewry once your population reaches 6k+ switch to corporate nationalism and tax to 98% or so and confiscate most of your private sector monies. Be careful to not starve them too low or you will paralize them as they start scuttling their ships.

No man. Be whatever species and any gov. Drop taxes to zero at start and build the cheapest small spaceport possible, build it without labs if you want to build a research station for a chance to get a scientist and remember to allocate enough labs to match your possible research maximum. Actually go a little over and make most of them energy labs for quick hyperdrive research and even out the research later.

Build one each of scout and construction ship initially to kickstart your private economy and keep the tax at zero until you dip in the red then increase it to whatever is manageable by your species until you have hoarded enough to run at zero for another good while. You do this because of pirates, you cannot pay them off if you are in the red and they may attack you, and because you want to max out the population of your homeworld quickly for maximum taxation. If your species has high pop growth you can have a low tax just to cover your expenses.
