 No.2663

Well, the board seems so dead and slow paced, that it might make sense to make a thread for organizing multiplayer games in the future.

I've got this weekend free, 07-08 of March, so if anyone's interested, I can host some EU4 with all DLCs or maybe some Vicky2, got both HoD and AHD. I have HoI3 and EU3 too, but I kinda doubt their appeal in terms of multiplay.

I haven't got any mods, but if need be I can install some.
Am Europoor though, so if you're not on the continent, you might experience some ping issues. My connection and hardware should be sufficiently strong for hosting though.

If people are up for it I have Civ5 too, though I never got into their expansions.

Otherwise, if people want to request any games or times I can take a look at it, or others can look into hosting their own sessions.

 No.2665

I like this idea, but EU4 a shit. Unless we're playing on a particularly interesting converted game from CK2, I recommend against it. Personally, my preference would be Darkest Hour, but I'm open to suggestion, and I'm also pretty free this weekend.

 No.2667

>>2665
EU4 is okay, though the railroading of Western European supremacy is annoying.
And we can just populate the world with custom nations, to make it interesting.

But I'd be open to trying a Darkest Hour MP game, though I don't think I'm proficient enough to play competitively.
That or maybe some Vicky2 since MPs would ensure that GPs don't act irrationally when the great questions of our time have to be decided.

 No.2668

>>2667

I wouldn't worry too much about being good; I presume it will just be a friendly game. I'm shit at Vicky, for example, but I'd still be up for playing it. I'd say that or DH are the best choices, as they allow for the most politicking among players. It's especially entertaining to play as a historical neutral in DH and wait until the last minute to decide which side of the war to join.

Admittedly, that only works if you have at least 5-6 players so that all of the major powers can be human.

 No.2676

Seems like a cool idea. The only games that would work decently, in my opinion, are EU and Victoria 2. Maybe even Darkest Hour. The problem with GSG multiplayer is the amount of hugboxing that can occur, but at the same time, it could make for some interesting maps.

 No.2679

>>2676

Hugboxing is fine; welcome to real life geopolitics. All you need to keep it interesting are multiple competing hugboxes.

 No.2680

>>2679
Yeah, that'd be interesting.

 No.2681

>>2680

It's part of why I suggest DH. WWII lends itself particularly well to alliance-based games.

 No.2694

>>2676
>>2679
>>2680

Well, I can start hosting a session this evening, GMT+1 if anyone wants? EU4 or Vicky2 for now, since I'm proficient at those games.

As for rules on hugboxing and the likes, I'm really not into the idea of regulating what you CAN and CAN'T do as players. If people start hugboxing, then you gotta play their game and use them. That's what tabletop evenings have taught me about those scenarios.

They want to share Africa peacefully? Lay claim to the best areas and say that it's all fair, you got it first and you called dibs. Use their unwillingness to go to war against them, like a scheming Hitler.

 No.2699

>>2694

I'd recommend picking a time tomorrow to start it instead to give people a chance to get on board, lest we end up playing with only 2-3 people. Any time after about noon GMT should work for me; up to you if you're hosting.

 No.2702

>>2699

I'll say 1600 GMT+1 then. Our Murifriends on the east coast will have it at 1000 AM then.

I'd be happiest if we used EU4, but I imagine it'll be too much of a clusterfuck, so let's go with Vicky2.

Any mods I should use? Or just vanilla with both expansions?

>>2702

I'm fine with EU4 if that's what you want to do. It's simpler anyway, so it usually works pretty well for MP.

As for mods, it might be more fun to do an alt-history, possibly converted from CK2. I would especially recommend how the one in my other thread is shaping up, but there's no way I'll finish it by tomorrow, so the best I can offer is a Norse world save I have from a long time ago, assuming it even works with the current version. Pics related.

Trigger warning: borders.

 No.2706

>>2703

I have El Dorado And all the other DLCs So we can give the world map some flavour by making our own nations.

I'd just have to set a time-limit of 20-30 minutes, so we don't derp around for hours, squeezing every ounce of worth out of our points.

I could also do a randomized world, where everything is populated after we've made our nations. And set it to flat base tax, so most provinces would be worth the same.

 No.2707

>>2706

I haven't played with El Dorado yet, so I don't know how well that works. If custom nations are reasonably balanced, I'm alright with that, though I prefer historical or alt-historical worlds over randomized.

 No.2708

>>2707

Randomization doesn't scramble everything. Borders follow religious lines and technological ones.

The system by which we set up our ideas is possibly a little OP if utilized correctly, but it'll be manageable.

Custom nations are made by using the 200 points you get. Depending on geographical location, your tech group will cost more or less depending on how good you want it.
Territory costs points according to manpower, tax and province modifiers such as trade centers.

It's a fairly balanced mechanic. Though the randomization really fucks with you, when Germany is a Turkish Emirate.

 No.2709

>>2708

Given what you're saying, I'm inclinced to vote for historical start, but you are hosting, so it's your call.

 No.2710

>>2709

Same, though we may have to put some fairly hostile people in charge of the larger nations, since a hugbox of early major powers would result in the death of any mid-small nation.

The only reason having everyone roll custom nations would be that they can't all have everything they want, and have to trade off on ideas and tech in order to gain landmass.

If you want I can host a quick game so you can take a look at the features.

 No.2711

>>2710

A fairly common MP restriction is to ban play of the biggest powers, which isn't a bad idea for a small game. I would at least politely recommend that no one plays France, Austria, Britain, or Spain, just to keep the game interesting.

But yeah, go ahead and host a test run just to see if we can make it work and mess around with the mechanics.

 No.2712

>>2711

Alright, game is up for testing.

I am awake, but I do have lunch plans in a couple of hours before I can join. Given how slow this board is, it might be a good idea to allow hot-joining so that anyone who sees this later on tonight can jump in.

Actually, it turns out I can play for a few hours if you're still around.

I just ended up playing with a couple of my RL friends. If the interest is there, then we should probably plan a week ahead, for next weekend, since 2 days warning obviously wasn't sufficient.

Saturday 14th at 16-17 GMT+1?

I can't personally make it as I'll be out of town next weekend, but don't let that stop you if there's enough interest.

what needs to happen is an invitation to both /pol/ and /leftypol/ and host HOI3 games every friday/saturday/sunday night

this will be a weekly competition. if it is a success, it can be streamed for the rest of 8chan to watch the weekly competition of /pol/ vs /leftypol/

/leftypol/ would play as comintern and /pol/ would fight against the comintern and themselves since /pol/ would be either the allies or axis. so although /pol/ has a larger userbase, it will be split up into 2. 3 giants fighting each other. major powers (Russia, USA, England) should be controlled by the people on /gsg/ that already know how to play the game well enough to not make some dumb mistake such as have 60 wasted IC for 8 months or something

 No.2766

>>2759

How about we first get a group of 5-6 players on here, who play somewhere around 2-3 times a month, and then we can look into hosting a Victoria 2 grand campaign with teams from /pol/ and /lefty/?

Being too ambitious won't do any good, when we're a slow paced board.

 No.2768

I see that I am a day late and a dollar short, but regardless I'd want either V2 or EU4 MP

More inclined for EU4 just because I've never played that online before

a /pol/ vs /leftypol/ maybe even /weebpol/ competition on a GSG game would be hilarious, and I'm surprised no one thought of it before.

If you want to do Vic 2 you'd probably want to make a little mod that makes it more /leftypol/ friendly. 1836 is just monarchs vs classical liberals.

Any openings available for a Vicky 2, or HoI 3 Campaign?

 No.2865

That'll probably be in the future, but I'm up for trying it.
I could possibly alternate between Vicky2 and EU4 every week?

Possibly, or just mods that alter CBs, so we can create blocs based on our form of government.

Also, 5-6 hours till I host EU4…
