In HOI3 what fleet compositions do you use?
I am experimenting with different ones, such as CA/DD SAGs, DD/BB ones, and I am considering a CV/DD CTF instead of CV/CL.
It would give much needed average fleet speed, likely resulting in more dead enemy ships, but the DDs would obviously be weaker and have a lower range.
Which do you use, and does anyone know how well DD/CVs work?

this game is crazy difficult and beating the USA seems impossible. I can not believe they just scattered 1 point cities all over the damn country.

also only fags care about the navy

i am playing as brazil and took over venezuela without a problem and then fought off the USA. I then moved to panama where i took the country and panama canal and fought off the USA. My biggest mistake was taking over mexico and then making them declare war on the USA. Now the USA is crushing mexico and moving closer to brazil while every time i send some 24 brigades from different water tiles all attacking the same port, i always get fend off by some garrison troop. And the moments when I'm successful, I realize that there is no moving forward because here comes USA with 1 million troops coming towards me. it never fucking ends. why the fuck did paradox make every country in the game reasonable to conquer but not the USA? for god's sake, every major power has that city worth 30 points but not the USA for some fucking retarded reason

It's a simulation of how difficult it would ne in reality. We burgers love freedom. You think we would give up of some freedom-hating freaks took over DC or New York? Hell no. Those cities are shitholes, anyway. We fight to the last man. The civilian populace too, if it came to that. It's not easy to destroy burgerland… through war, at least.

also the way they do it is still flawed since it says that every city is on par with another and there is no city better than another in terms of development and importance. god knows that some city in alabama isn't just as important as the capital or new york. paradox should have just done what they did with germany and made the national unity high. making each city 1 point each and requiring someone to take over all of it is ridiculous.

normal victory points for important cities
high partisan uprising chance
high national unity

that is how it should have been done

At any rate, the nature of that war was much different than WW2. It wasn't a total war situation, and there were no huge goals. Most of the population wasn't even affected. Besides, America started that war, so naturally they would be more willimg to end it as well. You think America would stop at anything if they were the ones under attack? And keep in mind, America's population is huge. Sure, that Alabaman city isn't as important as New York, but compared to your cities down in huehueland it's just as big if not bigger.

sure as hell as not big as the city I was born in which happens to be the largest city in the entire southern hemisphere, and more populous than New York which ranks in at #1 in the United States. The city is so big and full that you have to use helicopters stationed on top of the buildings to get anywhere on time, and because of that, Sao Paulo is home to the most helicopter pilots in the world. I believe Brazil has just never had a chance to prove themselves in a war against an invading army which is why we were given such a low IC, leadership, and victory points.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_metropolitan_areas_in_the_Americas

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A3o_Paulo

Brazil:
It is the world's fifth largest country, both by geographical area and by population.

The country's economy is the world's seventh largest by both nominal GDP and purchasing power parity, as of 2012

Brazil has a labor force of over a 107 million (ranking 6th worldwide) and unemployment of 6.2% (ranking 64th worldwide)

It has become the fourth largest car market in the world

The industry — from automobiles, steel and petrochemicals to computers, aircraft, and consumer durables— accounted for 30.8% of the gross domestic product.

There are about 2,500 airports in Brazil, including landing fields: the second largest number in the world, after the United States.
(the game only has 2 for brazil)

São Paulo has the largest number of helicopters in the world. The second and third positions are of New York City and Tokyo.

The Navy once operated some of the most powerful warships in the world with the two Minas Geraes-class dreadnoughts, which sparked a South American dreadnought race between Argentina, Brazil, and Chile

There are many positive things to be said about any country, but these are directly related to war. I'm not going to put in bullshit statistics about "oh my country produces a lot of coffee" as an excuse to why it would do better in a war.

>huge manpower, 5th in world (Manpower)

>large economy, top 10 (Money)
>6th worldwide in labor force (IC)
>large automobile market, top 5 (Auto Practical)
>Industry over 30% of GDP (IC)
>2nd most airports in world (Airbases)
>Sao Paulo most helicopters in world (Aircraft Practical)
>One of most powerful warships (Battleship Practical)

In Conclusion
Although these values would have been lower in 1933, so are the statistics of everyone else. I believe Brazil got majorly held back in the game because they didn't involve themselves in the war, had they done it, I believe Brazil would have been close to a major power. When I learn to make mods of my own I could make Brazil more powerful and increase the rare materials or whatever it is called to reflect the fact that we own the amazon rainforest and control the world's main supply of rubber since it all came from rubber trees

tl;dr
Brazil is only bad in the game because they did not prove themselves in the war even though they were close to being on par with the major powers in terms of economy and production. It is sad to see such a country be dragged down by fine African-American gentlemans and communists.

As major:

Nothing pre-1939. Then:

3 fleets of 1 carrier, 1 light carrier, 2 BB, 2 CA, 2 BC, 3CL, 3DD
2 fleets of 8x submarines.
Transports go aside, whenever you get to effectively use them you can build up to 30 at a time.

In the later game 1 new entire fleet of each with more modern units (1945 onwards), maybe 2 if the USA or Japan are doing too good.

As minor:
I don't even care about fleets, I spam ground troops with some occasional tank divisions and aviation and go full dictatorship to the side that fares better. Feels good being a regional power man.

>Brazil
>Major Power in 1940

USA's Manpower is nerfed because realistically deploying the USA's full manpower across the Atlantic would be entirely unreasonable. Brazil would be in a similar position, so to compare:

USA population 1940: 132M
Brazil population 1940: 41M

USA monthly gain while at war: 38 manpower
Brazil monthly gain while at war: 8 manpower

So it's pretty comparable. Realistically Brazil wouldn't have been able to shift its population so easily due to lower levels of industrialization and farming mechanization. I'd say Brazil is actually overpowered in-game manpower.

GDP wise:

USA GDP 1940: 1,046 B
UK GDP 1940: 330 B
Brazil GDP 1940: 51 B

Now USA is obviously nerfed to hell in IC, but compared to the UK Brazil should have less than 1/6th of their IC in-game, when in fact they have 161/40 = 1/4th the IC. So Brazil is clearly overpowered, and when we again consider that Brazil is far less industrialized I'd say that Brazil should actually have far less IC than 1/6th of the UKs. In fact Argentina's GDP was greater than Brazil's in 1940, so its a mystery why they have less IC in HoI3.

If I was balancing Brazil to be at historical levels of power I would say that they should have their Manpower cut by 50% and their IC cut by 75%.

I agree, Argentina should be stronger than Brazil not only in starting military units but from an IC perspective. This is simulated well in Darkest hour's kaiserreich

I just got this game and I took France in '37 by retardedly smashing into the Maginot Line and checking Paris' privilege, but I didn't pay attention to my air force and England keeps strategically bombing me. I have no idea what to do and I just noticed my unity plummeting; domestic spies aren't helping.

You shoulda built antiair to level 10 in all your industrialized provinces. They're cheap as fuck to produce, especially as Germany where you just shit out IC. Even at this point you should still be able to get some up.

Had I known the Allies all go to war at the same time I would have waited till '39. I've been putting up anti-air and scrambling the handful of interceptors I've got but it's a pain in the ass, and I had to put my invasion of Poland off.

I'll live, I think.
By the way, any suggestions on how to take on the Reds? I took a look at their manpower and it's insane (as I expected), plus it looks like they get a gigantic bonus if I'm at war with them.
I'm guessing it's just beat them as fast as possible before all that manpower comes into play, right?
What are the chances that they wont war dec on me if I take Poland/guarantee Romania?

Try to surround masses of their Armies and make sure they cannot retreat. Their Manpower will just reinforce it permanently otherwise.
