Maybe I'm just incredibly naïve, but I have a slimmer of hope that Paradox isn't going to fuck this up and that maybe, just maybe, Stellaris will be a contender to dethrone Distant Worlds, at least until Distant Worlds 2 is released.
I don't know, the few features they've released so far look promising, especially the focus on making sure late game isn't just boring map painting. I really like exploration in my games, and it could be fun to look around and research the history of species long since dead and shit like that.
The claim that they will make it easier to get into than EU4 however is really trying my nerves. EU4 was not hard to get into at all, it was so abstract that player agency was very limited and that made the game piss easy as a result : just follow all the limitations hard-coded in the game and the flow of your mana, you can't go wrong. I seriously hope these 3 icons with + numbers next to them aren't mana flow. Mana single-handedly fucked EU4, and it will fuck HoI4.
You can't make a good GSG if your target audience is cawwadoody lackwits; such a game wouldn't even be GSG. I want something that's at least as complex and fun as DW. God DW is fucking amazing. They claim it as an inspiration so maybe…just maybe…
I guess we'll find out in a few months. I'll pirate for sure. In the meantime, don't fuck up Paradox.
