Hi /gsg/, sorry for being a newfag but I'm trying to get into these games and the sticky recommended EU IV as the easiest to start with.

Thing is I read up on the game a bit and people seem to agree it has been broken since the Common Sense DLC, and the devs are lazy about fixing it.

Apparently, until now they have been churning out DLC regularly, breaking the game for those who lag behind and don't own the newest $20 DLC and whatnot.

This is my impression of the state of the game.

So I come here to ask if it's worth buying.

There's a complete package on Steam with all DLC but there are about 50% negative reviews now due to the new game mechanics that apparently broke other parts of the game.

Is it worth buying at its current state?

Is it feasible to wait until they stop making DLC and then count on it being fixed by then?

Is there another alternative that is not too punishing for someone new to the genre?

Thanks in advance.

in reality only if you are going to play the other newer paradox games and Civ maybe, but I would reccomend EU 3 or CK2

>Thing is I read up on the game a bit and people seem to agree it has been broken since the Common Sense DLC, and the devs are lazy about fixing it.

Yeah it's a shit, ruined the game for me

>Apparently, until now they have been churning out DLC regularly, breaking the game for those who lag behind and don't own the newest $20 DLC and whatnot.

The biggest example is you can't develop your provinces but the AI can if you don't have the DLC

>There's a complete package on Steam with all DLC but there are about 50% negative reviews now due to the new game mechanics that apparently broke other parts of the game.

Yeah negative reviews are the way to go to see how the game actually is, paradrones in full effect when you go see the Aztec DLC for CK2

>Is it worth buying at its current state?

Nah, we got some pirate links

>Is it feasible to wait until they stop making DLC and then count on it being fixed by then?

They won't fix it, they dont change much of the Old stuff if the DLC covered it

>Is there another alternative that is not too punishing for someone new to the genre?'

CK 2 for diplomacy and see how much mods can do

EU 3 for a general feel

Try DH too though play those others first

Played about 500 hours before picking up the Common Sense DLC. Ignored it when it first came out.

Thing is, the individual development doesn't break the game that much if you don't have the DLC. Like the guy above me said, the AI can develop their own provinces, but so far I haven't seen them do it much at all.

Keep in mind the reviews are right, but a lot of it has been patched.

Personally don't see why /gsg/ hates on it so much, as someone who comes from EU3 I really do enjoy EU4 just as much. I guess your mileage may vary.

While Darkest Hour is cool and all with Kaiserreich installed, I kinda think that Victoria 2 is honestly the best of the lot for new players to get in with. Mainly because it strikes a nice balance between warfare, diplomacy, expansion, and other such things.

Well, if you buy the game on steam you can always right click on it in your library, go to properties, then revert the version back to pretty much every major update.

The Art of War patch was the best one, I'd recommend reverting to that.

If you buy the game on steam you can always refund it too … finally.

Honestly EU4 is my favorite paradox game. I never understood why /gsg/ hates it so much (although its much worse on halfchan). Sure it's not perfect but the sheer diversity of countries and play styles that it offers can't be matched.

Definitely buy the base game, and pick up the DLC when they inevitably go on sale.

V2 is intimidating to start, I wouldn't recommend it as your first grand strat. It is incredibly fun however and is the best game if you want to shape the entire world in your image.

>we have pirate links

Shall I board my ship and head to tortuga or it will be set on a bottle message the link?
