Playing as France, year 1521; see pic (in coalition war against Bohemia, but that's happening far, far away from me).

What's an actual issue is the fact that England still has French territory.

I'd love to go to war with them; I have 50,000 men at my command ready to take these two measly provinces back. But there's one problem - international diplomacy.

I have lots of allies, but the only one willing to join my in my righteous crusade is Trier. England, however, has Venice, Flanders, Muscovy, Savoy, and Portugal all ready to lay down their lives, and my attempts to wage war I end up getting overwhelmed by their huge combined armies.

Do I wait? Will Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, and Holland all someday come to their senses? Or am I permanently buttfucked and should give up hope on ever regaining French ground?

I'm still very new at this game (I don't think I've ever gotten this far), so any advice on how to proceed or what to expect is much appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

It's pretty unlucky that England has so many allies, but I wouldn't worry too much about that. Wait a decade or two and they'll probably break at least a few of them. What you should also do is check why your allies don't want to join you against England. On the call to war screen, scroll over the red X next to your allies' names, and you should get a pop-up telling you why they don't want to join.

However, I'd recommend getting out of debt and getting your stability up before you try any large-scale wars.

My biggest ally, Austria, is the HRE, so he doesn't want to go to war. The rest of them like England too much. "Opinon towards enemy" or something like that.

Thanks for the avice though.

Another issue I'm struggling with - moreale. I clearly don't understand how it works in this game. I just faced off a Burgundian army, 82-35, and they won because my morale broke faster. I deeply in debt over trying to keep my amry's morale above 0, and yet I am still crumbling under any foreinger that dares to hold a gun. I mean I know I'm france, but still - this is rediculous even for surrender monekys.

If you underfund your military, either army or navy, it will have direct and very visible effects on their performance. If you look under the military in the country menu, then you'll be able to find your forcelimit. If you have more troops than that forcelimit, you'll start paying absurd sums extra for those troops.

So don't go over the forcelimit.

Also, you might want to focus on either the English Channel trade node, or the Genoese trade node. Both are end nodes, so they can sponge up a lot of money. Money that can finance your fleets and armies.

You might also want to plan your forts better, since overlapping forts can create huge extra costs in your budget. Remove forts that are just overlapping, and create forts at the borders you'll most likely be attacked on.

Since you're allied with Austria, I'd recommend that you make your moves to destroy Aragon and seize the river estuary and important center of trade down in Valencia. That'll make you able to seize most of the Genoese trade, since you're allied with the emperor and can't just eat all of the Lowlands.

Also, check the economy tab in the country menu and find out what you're throwing your money away on. It should be pretty apparent to you where your expenditures are, when you've already slashed army and navy, yet still manage to make a deficit.

>The rest of them like England too much

Isn't there a "sabotage reputation" option under the covert actions in the diplomacy tab? I've never used it, so I don't know how effective it is, but it may be worth looking into.
