Ok /gsg/, so I know that there aren't any actual "gaming laptops". Are there any that can at least smoothly run grand strategy games? I'm thinking mainly of EU3, which will probably run better than newer titles. But I'd like to be able to run other grand strategy games as well, such as CK2, Vicky 2, and HoI3.

I'd prefer something that isn't very expensive, but I'll take what I can get. I just want it too run smoothly. General specs questions thread, I guess?

Try the old Thinkpads T4xx series except for the 440s

they work for EU3 and Vicky 2, as well as DH, but CK2 runs a bit slowly

I have a Toshiba satellite with a GTX 540. A medium rig two years ago (at best), but runs all gsg games pretty damn good. It cost about $700. If you're willing to spend about that much, you can get one that'll do the job nicely.

Thanks for the advice. The GTX 540 isn't listed on Toshiba, but this is what is listed:

>2GB DDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® 930M with NVIDIA® Optimus™ Technology

>2GB DDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 930M with NVIDIA® Optimus™ Technology

>4GB DDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 950M with NVIDIA® Optimus™ Technology

>AMD Integrated Graphics

>Intel Integrated Graphics

Will any of those do?

I had a Toshiba from 2010 or 2011 that worked just fine running any grand strat I tried on it.

The 950 should do very nicely, especially with 4 gb of ram. The other 900 series might not be *quite* as good, but the 900 is still a great series, even at only 930 (my understanding is that the second digit is more important, but fair warning, I'm not an expert). And 2gb of ram is nothing to sneeze at. My 540 is only 1gb.

The integrated graphics cards may work, I often find they're more capable than people give them credit for. Got Fallout 3/NV working pretty damn well on an Intel 5500. But if you want to be *sure*, and if you want to play EU/HOI IV, then I'd make the investment to step up a notch.
