 No.4693

Anons, for the past year I've been working on the engines and tool necessary for me to develop a Grand Strategy game set in space.

My final engine + tools will be geared toward procedurally generated universe with adjustable levels of realism (i.e. habitable planets etc). I'm aiming for billions of celestial bodies.

I originally started development because I always wanted to play Hearts of Iron and Victoria in SPACE. And then Paradox announced their own game, so fuck them I'll make a better one.

I also want to put in events and event sequences with criteria and randomness.

I also want to put in random alien races and cultures.

I want some ideas on direction.

 No.4711

I'm still here Anons, and waiting for some help with direction.

What makes a good system?

What would be a good system for space?

So far I've thought that the game will be spread out over 1000's of years.

One thing I want to implement is culture and societal shifts. I'm thinking there should be some kind of ability for the player to shift things towards a direction. I'm thinking this could be a triangle or a square, with each corner representing some aspect of society.

Opposing corners are opposing societal views / types. So like Liberal / Conservative (but probably worded differently. Social / Private sort of deal.

The player can spend some sort of currency, like Social-Points or whatever, on pushing toward one of the corners.

How they actually gain these points… I'm not sure. I'm thinking it would be a steady income. The amount of income depends on the government type. So a democracy gets a lot less social points than a theocracy; illustrating the limited ability of a democracy to affect society and culture (considering you're elected based on society and culture); perhaps techs like "Social-Engineering" and "Social-Media Influence" will net a democracy more points.

The government type would also factor into the natural drift of your society toward one of these corners. Theocracy would become naturally more socialist maybe. Maybe the drift is pre-determined by the randomly generated religion?

That's another thing I wanted to include is as much random starting as possible. So while you can start the game with a specific religion / government type / etc etc; the real joy will be rolling random and seeing how far you can get.

>What makes a good system?

what you mean?

>What would be a good system for space?

see above

>So far I've thought that the game will be spread out over 1000's of years.

for space? thats not enough, or are you going to put "space, i dont need to explain shit" as excuse? i guess at least ten times that is better if you want to stay strict to travel physics. you could fit 1000y by managing the teletrasport for some race, light speed for others whatever space shit for the rest eben claiming black holes vortex

>One thing I want to implement is culture and societal shifts. I'm thinking there should be some kind of ability for the player to shift things towards a direction. I'm thinking this could be a triangle or a square, with each corner representing some aspect of society.

this should be the base of any gsg, look at hoi3and4….you will never have the possibility to drift germany into a peaceful commie country. for political reason i suggest you could make a esaedorn so you have 6 corners opposite eachother to fit in it other shape of gray from different idealogy to give more freedome to the player.

>The player can spend some sort of currency, like Social-Points or whatever, on pushing toward one of the corners.

i think that a percentage would work better, like if you are always at war, or lower your tax or do lot of experiment will give you a tick toward a corner.

think as if you want to be a mouse race, but have to increase the army size improve weapons and expand to civil planet you get 3 ticks toward aggressive fascist(will change the name since wouldnt make sense in Lore terms)

your idea of it instead sounds like a lazy cheap civ system….could work but would not be top game and thats not something you want not being a top game

>randomly generated religion?

i like the idea of random, but would work even better if you can choose to pick what you like as religion ideas etc….otherwise you would find a sientific run but being cripples by a bloodthirsty religion….let say you start from basic evolution, and after a while you get an event with option choice, and instead if you start a run with alredy done race will be random

>That's another thing I wanted to include is as much random starting as possible. So while you can start the game with a specific religion / government type / etc etc; the real joy will be rolling random and seeing how far you can get.

making it as an optional tickbox? lets say base start is choosing but ticking this box will make it random

as this >>4923 anon says, post your ideas on /v/ on a gsg thread or on /adgd/….here you will get too slow ansewr if none at all

will check again later if you are still here
