So far all of you have been great anons, but to keep this place from dying, we need more anons and more threads.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to shill? I make threads on /b/ once a week or so but we need more than that

This thread is for anyone who is new to guitar or just wants to learn something I might be able to teach or help with. There was one anon who showed interest a while back but he is MIA as of now. It seems like it could be a fun thing to do and I like to help people learn stuff with the guitar. Post skype info here and we can set something up. Happy playing, anons.

I have my practice schedule divided to lead & rhythm, but I just end up playing couple of rhythm guitar exercises. Biggest problem is that I don't have any good songs to transcribe. Songs I choose end up being too difficult to transcribe on my own or just sound boring.

Does anyone have good recommendations?

I replaced the strings of my strat for medium jazz strings (thick as fuck).

The thing is, It seems like the bridge is taking too much tension. does it looks tense to you? If so, what can I do to relieve it? Should I remove the strings and look for thinner ones?

I really wanted to try them…

You guys hear about the drummer that locked his keys in his car?

It took him four hours to get the bass player out.

Why did the bass player have trouble getting through the door?

He couldn't find the key and he didn't know when to come in.

Why can't bass players tell jokesTiming

Hoe many bass players does it take to change a lightbulb?

Just one, but the guitar player has to show him how to do it first.

Did you hear about the bass player that was SO out of tune that his band noticed?

This one's a little deeper but for all of you that know their theory:

A 'C', an E-flat, and a 'G' go into a bar. The bartender says: "Sorry, but we don't serve minors." So, the E-flat leaves, and the C and the G have an open fifth between them. After a few drinks, the fifth is diminished: the G is out flat. An F comes in and tries to augment the situation, but is not sharp enough.

A D comes into the bar and heads straight for the bathroom saying, "Excuse me. I'll just be a second." An A comes into the bar, but the bartender is not convinced that this relative of C is not a minor. Then the bartender notices a B-flat hiding at the end of the bar and exclaims: "Get out now! You're the seventh minor I've found in this bar tonight."

The E-flat, not easily deflated, comes back to the bar the next night in a 3-piece suit with nicely shined shoes. The bartender says: "You're looking sharp tonight, come on in! This could be a major development." This proves to be the case, as the E-flat takes off the suit, and everything else, and stands there au natural.

Eventually, the C sobers up, and realizes in horror that he's under a rest. The C is brought to trial, is found guilty of contributing to the diminution of a minor, and is sentenced to 10 years of DS without Coda at an upscale correctional facility. On appeal, however, the C is found innocent of any wrongdoing, even accidental, and that all accusations to the contrary are bassless.

266de0 No.671

How many guitar players does it take to change a lightbulb?

Ten.

Only one actually changes the lightbulb, but the other nine stand around and say, "pfff- I could do that."

f995ab No.683

>>671

Man I am so guilty of thinking this all the time. I usually dont ever say "I could do that" but I think it all the time when someone is wooing everyone with 4 chord songs.

>>664

Not really a joke, kind of just a long wordplay thing

Post things that are a drop in an olympic pool compared to the price of the official gear, but just as good/better.

Optional topic: Squire neck width to shill us into over paying for an american fender that has the same build quality.

The Danelectro French Toast. An octave fuzz pedal that sounds the same if not better (with my opinion on tones etc) than a chicago iron octavian, a $300+ pedal. Plus it has a switch to turn the octave on and off. All for the price of ~$40.

Hey retards, I'm new to guitar and only know chords C-A-Am-G-E-Em-D-Dm

I'm really slow with transitioning between chords, so I don't mind not expanding my chord vocabulary for a little bit, but what's the next step?

No previous musical experience. I know my major scale on piano and a few chords on banjo, plus how to do a forward-backward roll and stuff like that. No idea how to read sheet music and very small understanding of music theory.

WHAT DO? Just keep learning chords, focus on transitioning cleaner & faster, then mimic songs or something?

Keyboard/piano is easier, at least in my opinion. Having them laid out one after the other rather than being staggered by strings like a guitar is easier to get to grips with.

Guitar's a hell of a drug though.

I'd suggest doing what the other person said - learn your scales and your chord transitions.

Then I'd suggest easy songs like Lera Lynn's "This Is My Least Favourite Life" that would probably help you transitioning between notes and chords easily.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rc2KHz-sJfA

And in between that, sit down, listen to music, hold your guitar and start trying out different rhythms with the scales. That really helped me get to grips with improvising riffs (I'm still fairly new to it myself).

>>497

I like how classical and spanish guitar sounds. I only have an acoustic. I think I'd enjoy an electric much more, but for now I will learn acoustic.

I found most of what I like from halfchan /mu/. I really dig slint. Agolloch is cool too. I think for now I might try and mimic some nirvana unplugged songs.

A long time ago I learned chords on banjo, I still have it, I've just been focusing more on guitar and keyboard as of late, but what I'm getting at is that my finger picking is good (forward backward rolls, and that sort of thing), so maybe a style that emphasizes that?

000000 No.677

If you know the major scale of any chords on piano means you know everything. You just have to organize your thoughts, think about intervals. Take the C chord, you know you have a tonic note(C), the third of this chord(E, cuz is major) and the fifth(G). With these informations you're gonna learn all chords. With the tonic, the third and the fifth you can make all chords.

That is the first thing that you have to concern about.

After you catch all these things, I think you have to begin to learn about time(4/4 8/8 7/8…….).

Listen I looooooot of Dream Theater.

This……is not what I expected. I dig it, I really do.

Have you considered dubbing in some electric guitar leads and some percussion and turning this into one of those epic ballad types?

What I'm hearing here kind of reminds me of some later SOAD in parts, in all honesty. And I kinda like it.

Don't get me wrong, it's good as is, but I expected a big soaring climax at the end, and then maybe a slowdown into one more verse. That's what I would have done with it personally but that's why music is awesome; you can write whatever blows your hair back.

Also, one of the more competent posts I've seen yet on this entire board, skill level-wise. Very emotional piece, and that's the whole point.

For those of you who are new to learning guitar, i would like to offer you the few tips that helped me tremendously in the learning process.

1) THEORY: between pic related and google, learning theory is easy. dont spend too much time practicing scales and stuff its boring and frankly you wont learn how it applies to music. though when playing, make a conscious effort to see the theory in whatever your playing THATS when youll start to see how these scale patterns and whatnot fit into music. its more enjoyable than mind numbingly going up and down scales too(not to undermine the importance of remembering them)

2)PLAYING: the most important thing to remember when playing/practicing is that the physical act of playing guitar is almost ALL muscle memory. the more sloppily and rushed you play, the more your muscles "remember" to play that way. slow down and play with a metronome as cleanly as possible, and your muscles will "remember" to play cleanly when you speed things up

3) STRETCH YOUR HANDS AND FINGERS: do it, just take the time to do it before you even pick up the guitar, you'd be surprised how awful muscle tension can make your playing sound.

Why are pentatonic scales so high up on the pyramid? Are you really supposed to learn standard music notation and harmonic analysis before the minor pentatonic scale? I thought pentatonic scales were what they start children with in school music programs. Or does 'pentatonic scales theory' refer to something more complex?

d8c35b No.574

I'd add up Warming up (don't try to play the hardest and fastest excercises or songs before warming up), Good Posture (shit posture will fuck up your progress and your body) and Ear Protection (especially for electric guitar players who like to play with the amp up to 11, but it goes through all our day to day activities), those are very important in the long run.

Sorry for my shit english, btw.

8c0259 No.657

>>574

that chart refers to pentatonic scale theory. the actual pentanotic scale itself is easy, but understanding why it works is the harder part.
