I like Takako Yamamoto a lot. Also Trevor Brown, and a few small artists on deviantart like Saccstry.

I'll probably never find out who drew this.

But it's not so much the artists themselves that I focus on, but more like the themes and emotions conveyed.

Kinda like the social criticism conveyed in old Horror movies by John Carpenter.

I feel good guro usually has a deeper message or meaning behind it, that normally you would not be able to relay to others without masking it in some way.

For myself I love the works of Sakifox (CrackleCradle and Blankblood games), Waita Uziga (Mai-chan and the wonderful dark/ironic humor), and NNS (dat art style).

Pretty sure we all know Uziga so the first image is the sample for the BlankBlood CG by Sakifox and the second image is drawn by NNS.

臼野太郎 definitely. Not 100% sure on what the correct romanization of their name is, so I'm not going to even try.
Most of their stuff is really artsy and surreal so it isn't for everyone, but boy do I love it.
