So /hack/, what can one do with JUST an IP address? I know there's vulnerability scanners, port scanners, and advanced pings but what are the possibilities?

 No.217

the only Security flaw i can think of is DDOS and DOS

I don't think there are many things you could do with just an IP address (and I've no idea why you'd want to restrict yourself to that either) unless you have a super-magical 0day that happens to work on every computer ever. Unless you know more about your target, by for example scanning the ports, you have no way to limit the possible attack vectors and you won't get anything done.

ffs learn about NAT.
The IP is not necessarily 1 computer!

well even with NAT the IP is one computer in a network. of course that computer is probably a router

 No.403

well for a start, port scan it and see what's there
whois
traceroute
reverse dns

fuck, i don't know, look up wikipedia and see if it's made any anonymous edits

I can call your ISP and tell them you've been distributing child porn.

Little to nothing of interest.

Ultimately, you'd take the IP address to nmap or something similar to learn a little more about the computer leasing it, like OS it's running, open ports and other shit. If you're trying to do something with JUST and IP address, you can look it up on an Internet service to get some vague information and make some generally groundless (and therefore worthless) assumptions.

You can find location

I like iplocation dot net
