I am not too good with circuitry and electronics, but I am trying out a pong console project. I have an AY-3-8500-1 that needs an external clock. I want to control how fast the game moves and I think I can do this either with a switch to choose between two clocks or use an LMS555 and a tuning resistor to change the clock speed. Would this work or is there some problem or some safeguard put in the chip to prevent this?

How is this ham radio related

I just went to the list of boards and clicked the first one that said electronics. Sorry if this is not the right place.

I regret to tell you that a 555 timer will not reliably oscillate at that frequency.

It's expensive, but multiple crystals is the way to go.

It will save you the headache.

Link related, more expensive.
