it's a VHF/UHF handheld radio, unless you manage to work satellites, you will not be doing more than line of sight at best.

It is not a HF radio for global communications.

A cheap shortwave receiver will give you the ability to hear foreign commercial broadcasting.

Spend a bit more and you can also receive SSB, and then you can listen to amateurs, various militaries, decode digimodes and other utility stuff. >>327
