I updated from Windows 7 Ultimate to Win 10 Pro; but after I saw WHY Microsoft is giving away Win 10, I wiped my hard drive to get rid of all the spyware, and did a clean reinstall of Windows 7, being careful during updating NOT to install the updates that install telemetry functions (spyware) onto Windows 7. Those who do not switch to and stay with Windows 10, who insist on keeping Win 7, 8, or 8.1 are sent updates to install Win 10 style spyware on their computers so Windows, NSA, and everyone in-between can spy on those users. If you have Automatic Updates enabled, those updates are installed without your knowledge or consent.
Basically, Windows 10 is built upon a spyware foundation. It's basically one big Trojan Horse with the functionality of a Windows operating system.
The spyware, adware, and other Trojan-like features can be turned off and/or uninstalled, but it takes a solid week to find everything and shut it all down. Automatic Updates cannot be set to manual, and it cannot be disabled. It can be disabled temporarily, but when Microsoft does its regularly scheduled scans of your computer and sees that Automatic Updates is disabled, it enables it again without warning and without your consent.
Windows 10 is a big failure as an operating system, in my opinion.
I am now running Windows 7 Ultimate, and will not upgrade to Windows 10 Premium.
Another thing: Files that you could access in the past in XP and Windows 7 are inaccessible and return an "Access Denied" error whenever the user tries to access them. Directories (folders) that contain the integrated malware are not accessible by the owner. Only Microsoft and the NSA can access those files.
However, where there's a will there's a way. While it's a long, drawn-out process to rid Windows 10 of the Trojanware, as I call it, it is possible--but not worth it, IMHO.
