Today multiple threads were deleted, around 20,000,000 users were banned . This is likely because our volunteer, heeb, had a weak password and it was easily guessed.. https://8ch.net/b/res/4959649.html Luckily lowcard was around and was able to delete the account when i wasnt here. Thank you, lowcard!

It's great that it was only 2 pages worth and not the whole board, but it was a few of the most active threads. I'm telling all vols to make sure they only use much more secure passwords from now on.

Everyone that was banned today is unbanned now. No ip's were ever at risk either.

I apologize. This wont happen again. Ive taken multiple steps in the past to make sure that the board doesnt get wiped/flooded (maximum pages set to 25, early 404, and a thread per hour cap). But theres little that can be done to prevent something like this besides requesting everyone change their passwords.

Just curious as a non computer person

How lax and/or trusting are board owners when it comes to the volunteers and other people they own and assign?

2 other boards I go to also had passwords stolen and admin functions messed with. Id like to think you know these people IRL but then again for a person who runs a board such as this would you really want people to know the real you?

Then if not you guys just know each other through reputation sort of or the archaic shit system of picking people through email whoever signed up.

Im not saying everyone should be closefriends with each other because then favoritism and corruption ensue but Im curious

When you create a board they give you a random pass. But you can change it to whatever.

Update: Case solved. heeb had been using the same random password, which is pretty secure, that was given to him by the old BO, colby.

All evidence points towards colby being the one who attempted to delete the entire board.

Who would have thought he still cared?

Thought I'd update everyone on infinity next, the site software that 8chan is switching to. The whole site, including /hebe/ should be switching before the new year. They already saved the posts that will be transferred over. Back when they blacked out the site for almost a day.

This means all posts after 97731 will be forgotten. So dont freak out when the board reverts back to the way it was on 12/18

I'll give a screenshot of all the options available with the new software and we can decide on those settings then. We'll also need new file deleted and spoiler images since the image dimensions have changed.

There are things I do look forward too, some that worry me. This current software is broken. Index pages are fucked. Deleting posts doesnt work all of the time. Spam gets posted more frequently and global mods cant do anything about it either apparently because global delete by IP never worked. The only solutions to that would be to get more mods, which I have done. and to enable captcha board wide, which I know no one wants.

As of this message, when I refresh the main index page, the last post i see is #97852, 9 hours ago. Almost 50 posts behind. Not to mention the cp spam right below it, that was deleted a long time ago, which is still lingering on the front page. Once the site becomes more responsive, activity will boost too.

We'll have to just see how it plays out but the current software is dead and the only way to go is forward. Let's just give it a chance.
