The only thing I'm certain about is that Feira will despair and anguish, because that's the artist's fetish. Well, maybe you can avoid making Feira sad, but her happiness/sadness/mood/sanity/whatever will be a major mechanic.
There's a thorough standing portrait system for Feira, with a lot of the art for it completed. Much of Feira's nude sprites are done as well. Art-wise, the game has had a lot of progress.
A lot of design was planned out too, but I haven't really paid attention to it and with most of the team dead, I'm not sure how much of it still has supporters.
I might just be making stuff up, but I think we're drawing inspiration from VH and D&P. I believe the plan is to seamlessly blend realtime stealth gameplay with turnbased combat. Originally I thought turnbased would be the way to go, but we have enough sprite animations that I think it could even work as an action rpg.
Code-wise, not much has happened, so don't expect anything playable soon.

We have a new writer that's pretty active now. We had tons of documentation on game design before, that I hadn't been following. Now there's even more of it. I wonder if the other coder is as clueless as me.
I've been working on standing portraits with the messaging system. The goal is to automate it as much as possible. On the left in the pic is a demo for some script on the internet where 2 characters with standing portraits are talking to each other. The right side is the same thing, but with the system for Feira Quest. Maybe I should make a video sometime.
I plan to slim it down even more. Focus will automatically switch based on the name tag embedded in the message text (don't have name tags yet). We'll also automatically handle initialization and shutdown of the portraits. This would've been simple if it weren't for the fact that a text message followed by a choice/input prompt counts as closing and re-opening the message system. Looks like I'll need to do some tinkering to get the behavior right.

Think I'll work on the chipset system next. We have some animations that go beyond just walking. There are also a ton of layers to handle. I thought there would only be a few, but it looks like EVERY detail from the standing portrait goes into the chipset. For example, you'll be able to see if her right arm is injured. Crazy. By the way, anyone have any good ideas for phrases shown at the start and end of fights? Like in fighting games - "Heaven or Hell", etc. When at peace, you move around in real time, but when hostiles appear, we'll show a transition effect and switch into turn based combat mode.

Some background on the patreon. I'm in a rough spot in life, that might've had me leaving the project. I never really viewed the project as my own, so never suggested we take money for it. However, I was at the end of my rope and the project was just about to turn half a year old. In those 6 months, no other hgg anons survived contributing for free (the new writer we had for one month aside). It's understandable. I myself have other projects I work on and my contributions to this one had been pretty minimal.
So in desperation I decided to sell my soul to the adult industry. Thankfully, chink was ok with starting a patreon. I'm going to dedicate myself to the project for a few months to see if it can keep me alive until my life's in better shape. Ideally, I could make a living off this, but I probably shouldn't bet on it.
Though you guys will probably hate it, the game wouldn't have been playable for a long time under the old pace. We spent the past 2-3 weeks kicking it up a notch in preparation for this.

We stopped billing and programming's been on hiatus. Maybe some other time I'll detail the terrible events that led me to try making a living off doing porn on patreon, but for now the good news is that I finally got a job. The bad news is 12 hour work days. I think by summer my situation should be improved, but I'd like to start making progress before then.
We vowed to not bill again until we've surpassed the 0.8 release. That's going to take a while, so no patreon rewards for awhile too. We planned to retire our $50 tier as well; which I think we stated awhile back, and that there'd be just one more. Though at the time we didn't expect it to be delayed.
Are any of our past $50 contributors here? The previous guy handling the reward has been long gone. We've lost the correspondences since then when our latest email provider kicked the bucket. I believe at least one winner never got in touch with us as well. So, it's a mess that I feel bad about for not cleaning it up.
Chink's last commit was 20 days ago. Now that I look at it, he's done some cool stuff the past few months. I've always left it to him to post about his stuff though. I've been too busy and had to quit reading 4chan /hgg/s, so I don't know if anything ever got posted there or not.
Now for programming talk, if anyone cares.
I actually did do a bit of work last night - looking at Javascript build tools. I decided to give Broccoli a shot, and fallback to Gulp if needed. At this stage, I've just been focusing on how to structure the project. Under VXA, we kept 2 separate git repositories: one for code and one for binary assets (which also ended up being a scratch pad of sorts). We're going to keep this separation, but I think we're going to need to do more asset processing.
This is just theoretical so far, but I think we'll need to blow up our 32px tiles to 48px for use in the editor, but switch those back to 32px assets during the build process. That way we can keep the smaller file size and chink won't cry about the pixels being off. I've also had ideas about programmatically building our sprite sheets so that they wouldn't be so huge (massive memory killer in VXA) and wouldn't take forever for chink to build by hand. That was and still is a very low priority, but I'm just giving examples of why I wanted a more capable build process.
Another area I need to give thought to is how to integrate assets into the build process while still keeping them in a separate repository. I'm aware there are ways, but I haven't tried them myself, and I worry about it being too complex in a project with non-technical people and language barriers.

Been holding off on responding because I have no idea what's going on with 8chan. For now, the short answer is that there are tradeoffs, but not being limited by VXA's tilemap and renderer implementations is a big win.

MV has everything past engines had, with less restrictions and now based on Javascript. You can still make games at the same pixel density as Ace if you want, just use a script to change the engine from 42px sprites to 32px(?) sprites. Also, there is no set res anymore. You can make the resolution of your game configurable, or set one yourself.
