There's an old blog, but it's dead, and the game has had a title for like 2 months now. A new one will be created at some time or another.

The only thing I'm certain about is that Feira will despair and anguish, because that's the artist's fetish. Well, maybe you can avoid making Feira sad, but her happiness/sadness/mood/sanity/whatever will be a major mechanic.

There's a thorough standing portrait system for Feira, with a lot of the art for it completed. Much of Feira's nude sprites are done as well. Art-wise, the game has had a lot of progress.

A lot of design was planned out too, but I haven't really paid attention to it and with most of the team dead, I'm not sure how much of it still has supporters.

I might just be making stuff up, but I think we're drawing inspiration from VH and D&P. I believe the plan is to seamlessly blend realtime stealth gameplay with turnbased combat. Originally I thought turnbased would be the way to go, but we have enough sprite animations that I think it could even work as an action rpg.

Code-wise, not much has happened, so don't expect anything playable soon.

I haven't done any coding in months because my life sucks, but I did manage to setup a GitLab server. Even at this early stage, this may just be my greatest contribution of all time to the project. Well, no one else on the team has used git before, but they've managed to push simple commits. I'm hoping in the future, other programmers will be able to contribute via git, and we'll be able to have multiple developers work together far more efficiently than in a project like VH.

The other coder in the project has been working regularly. I haven't looked at the code yet, but he's gotten a variable-width bitmap font working. The default font was deemed unsuitable by the artist.

We have a new writer that's pretty active now. We had tons of documentation on game design before, that I hadn't been following. Now there's even more of it. I wonder if the other coder is as clueless as me.

I've been working on standing portraits with the messaging system. The goal is to automate it as much as possible. On the left in the pic is a demo for some script on the internet where 2 characters with standing portraits are talking to each other. The right side is the same thing, but with the system for Feira Quest. Maybe I should make a video sometime.

I plan to slim it down even more. Focus will automatically switch based on the name tag embedded in the message text (don't have name tags yet). We'll also automatically handle initialization and shutdown of the portraits. This would've been simple if it weren't for the fact that a text message followed by a choice/input prompt counts as closing and re-opening the message system. Looks like I'll need to do some tinkering to get the behavior right.

Think I'll work on the chipset system next. We have some animations that go beyond just walking. There are also a ton of layers to handle. I thought there would only be a few, but it looks like EVERY detail from the standing portrait goes into the chipset. For example, you'll be able to see if her right arm is injured. Crazy. Mind-bogglingly crazy.

By the way, anyone have any good ideas for phrases shown at the start and end of fights? Like in fighting games - "Heaven or Hell", etc. When at peace, you move around in real time, but when hostiles appear, we'll show a transition effect and switch into turn based combat mode.

Demonstration of switching into turn based mode when in combat.

Combat-wise, I'd like to just do one hit KOs for the first demo, but I wonder if the others will let me get away with that. They be asking for stuff like dynamic lighting, no joke.

Made a lot of progress so far. Equipment shows up on the walking sprite and standing portrait. Standing portrait can change expressions based on specified "moods". The dialog system loads text from external files and automatically word wraps.

Yay for delays. We keep tightening the leash, but it keeps slipping away. Currently waiting for the next time timezones align. Doesn't help that I spent an entire day going autistic on maps. Doesn't help that the irc server was down during the only time slot the other dev ever shows up. I think he has a critical piece he needs to finish, so I'm kind of worried we'll have to wait another 24 hours before finding out its progress.

On the bright side, the demo has a lot more features and polish than what I envisioned we'd have when we started this rush a week ago. Don't get too excited though. There's nothing to fap to, and you'll probably be bored after messing around in it for 15 minutes.

This explains the delays in getting the demo out. I wanted the patreon up asap, and figured the demo could always be improved upon. The others wanted a good first impression. The release comes later than I wanted, but far sooner than the others ever planned.

Some background on the patreon. I'm in a rough spot in life, that might've had me leaving the project. I never really viewed the project as my own, so never suggested we take money for it. However, I was at the end of my rope and the project was just about to turn half a year old. In those 6 months, no other hgg anons survived contributing for free (the new writer we had for one month aside). It's understandable. I myself have other projects I work on and my contributions to this one had been pretty minimal.

So in desperation I decided to sell my soul to the adult industry. Thankfully, chink was ok with starting a patreon. I'm going to dedicate myself to the project for a few months to see if it can keep me alive until my life's in better shape. Ideally, I could make a living off this, but I probably shouldn't bet on it.

Though you guys will probably hate it, the game wouldn't have been playable for a long time under the old pace. We spent the past 2-3 weeks kicking it up a notch in preparation for this.

Other ways of making money off Feira Quest? Patreon seemed like the best way to have stable earnings. I haven't read through the whole threads yet, but maybe it's not clear that we're doing a frequent, iterative release cycle to match. Kickstarter-like campaigns didn't seem like a good choice for the scope of the game; we'd probably get just as much hate asking for a huge funding goal. People are already mocking the 4k goal.

Thing is, my asking price is a lot higher. We'll have to wait for a few more releases to see if I can prove it's worth it. For reasons I only mentioned in passing, the decision to go down this route was rather last minute: we put something together in half a month (>>2427).

I'd say give it some time before declaring it a scam. Just because some projects didn't turn out well doesn't mean all will.

4000 is a bit high, but it's not quite inconceivable since Breeding Season's getting 27,000 a month. Still, the average for a game is probably more or less a few hundred. You need a lot of coverage for this to work.

I guess you could ask the lewdgamer website to write an article for some coverage, can't really think of any other website that would help cover you.
