Katakana and hiragana are not too difficult, but memorizing kanji beyond the first hundred or two is a nightmare.

Nothing that can't be mastered with time atleast. I'd rather like to hope that civilizations didn't create their language so that regular joe shmoes couldn't learn, understand, or use it. Every civilization besides the Chinese atleast.
