I run linux, had a wine prefix setup, some basic schtuff and original fonts were needed…
oh for rpg maker games, other games are sort of hit or miss

Make a virtual machine with VirtualBox. It'll be a lot easier than wine and you can run text hookers. It's free. You can get an official Windows 7 iso for free. Win7 doesn't need to be activated; it won't ever lock you out or anything.

Wine is good enough for a lot of games. I beat Sengoku Rance with Wine on OS X and it only crashed during the cinematic after I beat the game.
An emulator like Parallels Desktop works without needing to dual-boot. Every h-game I've encountered that didn't work with Wine worked in Parallels. VMware Fusion is the main alternative to Parallels Desktop but Parallels works so I haven't felt a need to try it.
